Hi there,

I've had Vonage for about 4 months and recently (in the last month) when the phone is in use no wireless devices will work. The desktop computer works fine but the laptop, xbox360 and nintendo ds wireless capabilities stop working (they are fine when the phone is not in use.)

Here is the info on my devices:

Vonage router (I think that's what it's called): motorola VT2142
Internet Provider: AT&T DSL
Modem: 2Wire (not sure of model but it is brand new)

Speed Test results:

Download speed 1696 Kbps (socket test)
Upload speed 435 Kbps (socket test)
Quality of service 99 %
Maximum pause 23 ms
Round trip time 45 ms
Upstream jitter 2.4 ms
Upstream packet loss 0 %
Upstream packet order 100 %
Upstream discards 0 %
Downstream jitter 8.4 ms
Downstream packet loss 0 %

Advanced Results:

Speed test statistics

Thanks in advance and let me know what other information you need.

It seems that you may have a 2.4GHz cordless phone. If so, then it will bump all 802.11b/g/n devices off the air with interference. The only solution would be to change to 900MHz (obsolete, but works well), 5.8GHz, or 1.9GHz (US-DECT).

Both the WiFi and 2.4GHz phone use the same frequencies. They both transmit at the same time in the same channel. The "other one" looks like noise. In most cases, the cordless phones win - their protocols are simpler and less vulnerable to being "stepped on".

could this also be the problem with laptop wifi vs xbox360 wifi? now that we solved the phone issue it seems that we are having a problem using the internet and xbox live at the same time. i know it's not a Vonage question but you seem to know your stuff!! any advice?

thanks again!

Both the PC and Internet use WiFi and (I assume) are using the same access point - which says that they are on the same network. In that case, they should not run into RF interference since they are all running the same protocol and are a single network, normally "controlled" by the access point/router.

I am not so familiar with XBox specifics, but if the XBox is access point/router and not just a client on the same network, then you may have an interference problem. The fix there is simple - log into the access point and change the WiFi channel. Most ship with Channel 6 as the default. Change it to 1 or 11 (and leave the other one where it is). On different channels, you won't have interference.

If the XBox is a client on your existing network, then the likely problem is that the XBox wants more bandwidth out of your internet connection than is available. The only choices there would be to upgrade to something faster ot wait and use these things one at a time.
