I'm still on the RTP300 and for the past 2 years, my Bandwidth saver has been set to 90kbs (the highest). From the very beginning and all this time, our voice quality on all our calls has been the same as or even better than a POTS landline. Now, all of a sudden, our voice sounds like we've been set to the 30kbs or 50kbs setting - it sounds all muffled and like it's all digitized or something. I checked my bandwidth saver settings on my account online and it still says it's set to the highest (90kbs). Is it possible that our CODEC has been changed to a lower setting, but the web still shows the higher setting? Furthermore, is it possible that because of the lawsuit with Verizon that Vonage has changed over to some new CODECs that aren't as good as what they've had all this time?
Has anyone else noticed what I'm referring to or is it just me (like it seems to be a lot lately)?

Well, I took a chance and the other night, logged into my Vonage account online and changed my Bandwidth Saver setting from High to Medium and then back to High to force a CODEC reset on my RTP300. After performing this action, my calls are crystal clear and sound the same as or better than a regular landline.
It appears that someone at Vonage changed my CODEC setting to a lower setting internally on my RTP300 without changing the setting on the Vonage website, thus giving you the false impression you were still set at the High Quality setting.
Just passing this info on to help anyone else who may go through the same kind of problem in the future. |

Yeah, because everyone knows that hardware glitches never happen. |
