Post subject: Motorola VT2442,-This is telephone line is not provisioned

I'm using VT2442 connected to Beetel 220BX modem through Airtel (India).
I've been using
Vonage
successfully for last 6 months, but I'm getting the message "This is telephone line is not provisioned. Please try the other line" from past week. Following are the changes I have made recently (the problem has started after making these changes):
1. I've connected 1 more comp through an Intex Switch
2. I have formatted my hard rive
I dont know whether this problem is due to the changes I've made; but
Vonage
was working perfect until I added 1 more comp.
Apart from the above message ("line not provisioned...") the Power light on VT2442 always blinks intermittently and Phone 1 light never glows.
PS: I've also tried connecting the Modem/VT2442 directly to 1 comp (avoiding the Switch) without any success...

Please post all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. Give details for both the old and the new setup.
Are you getting internet service with the new setup? Does going back to the old setup get phone service back?

Post subject: ISP-Airtel, Modem-beetel 220BX, OS- XP, P4
Thanks Steve.
The recorded message says: "This telephone line is not provisioned for use. Please try the other line".
Major difference (in old & new setup) is that Im now connecting 2 computers through an Intex Switch.
Vonage
was working fine when I was connecting it directly to the modem with just one comp. But even now, when I'm trying to connect it with the same old set up, it is not connecting.
Now I'm not getting the internet/phone service in either of the set up.
Changes that I've noticed after the new set-up:
1. Power light blinks continously.
2. Phone 1 light never glows
3. I do not get internet (even after trying the troubleshooting steps provided in Motorola manual).
4. All the lights on the Modem glow as required
Do I need to make any changes in router configuration in 'voice gateyway's default IP address'? (though I dont remember doing it in my old setup)...

Ban, let's stay here where others can jump in. You'll get more help that way.
You've given us some good information so far, but we really need
all
the details listed in the sticky. Also, knowing the major differences between your two setups doesn't look like it's going to get us there- we need full details on both setups. Since it worked before and doesn't now, it's possible that you inadvertently changed something when you went back to the original setup. Can you think of anything that might have changed?

Sorry Steve, I should've done this in my 1st post...
1. Location - India
2. ISP name and type - Airtel DSL
3. Upload and download speeds - Not sure (net speed is above 256kbps)
4. Modem make and model - Beetel 220BX
5. Type of
Vonage
adapter - Motorola VT2442
6. Setup of Network - Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing - No dial tone & recorded message says "This telephone line is not provisioned for use. Please try the other line" AND no internet (though internet works fine in the absence of
Vonage
adapter)
8.
Voip
Test: I can't run the test, because I don't get internet after connecting the
Vonage
adapter.
Changes:
1. I was not using the VT2442 for past 1 month. Could the moisture be a cause for this problem (the power light always blinks, but doesn't glow and Phone 1 port never glows)?
2. I did have a parallel phone line in the previous set up, but had not connected a phone then. Now, I have connected a phone to the parallel line too.
3. I had connected a few wires/cables to the UPS and few others to the Spike booster, but now I really dont remember which one had gone to which (I also don't know whether this makes any difference).
Other than these, I don't see any other changes in the set-up.
Thanks in advance...

OK, if I understand correctly, the original setup is simply modem to
Vonage
VT2442 to PC. It used to work, but doesn't now, and you don't know of any changes. You have not changed the settings of the VT2442, and you haven't done a reset on it. This is the setup that we're trying to troubleshoot. You also get no internet service with this setup. Correct so far?
If you remove the VT2442 and plug your PC directly into the modem, do you get internet service? If so, run the forum
Voip
speed test in that configuration and post the detailed results.

Sorry, I missed on mentioning the reset thing... I did reset the VT2442 twice while trying to connect it; but that too did not help.

Post subject: Loosing settings on Motorola Routers
I've notice a common theme with a couple of posts that the Motorola devices might be loosing the setting on the power cycle. I have a vt2542 and this is my second one, the first one kept loosing my PPoE Settings then I would hear "this line is not provisioned......
The Device can not see the internet either because it's not connecting to it or the settings are not right! If you're using a
Vonage
Device as your router check you PPoE settings on it! I keep loosing my settings when I restart that dam thing!
any Ideas?

Sorry for the delay; things have been busy around here.
Your test results are actually pretty poor with those long delays, but that
probably
doesn't explain the complete failure that you're experiencing.
The fact that you reset the VT2442 may explain why the original setup no longer works. With DSL in India, the default settings usually won't. Under what conditions are you able to use the internet? With the
Vonage
box in place and the computer plugged into it, with the
Vonage
box removed and the computer plugged directly into the DSL modem, or something else?
Did you originally set up the service or did someone else set up the VT2442?
Keep in mind that one source of aid is you internet service provider. If the ISP is worth a hoot, they should be willing to help you set up a router, which is what the VT2442 is-
Vonage
needn't be mentioned. Getting the routing function working correctly usually gets the phone working as well.
