That's what's making this so hard to pin-point now...your test results fluctuate from one test to the other. First, lets look at the modem. How long have you had it and are you renting the modem from TW? Do you know if it's a recent model from Toshiba?

I've had the modem for about 2 years now and yes, it is from TWC. I believe that I have a Linksys modem in my closet that I'd be happy to hook up if it might help.

The ping test is another useful diagnostic tool. It estimates the round-trip time, generally in milliseconds, and records any packet loss. You can run the ping test just like you run the tracert from the command prompt. You can ping a website (ping www.yahoo.com), you can ping your modem (ping 192.168.100.1 applies to the motorla modem that I have) I don't know the address for your Toshiba modem and you can also ping your router (ping 192.168.1.1).

If you can, yes plug up your Linksys cable modem and run the test.

Well, I hooked up the Linksys cable modem and thought for a little while that there was hope. Right after hooking it up and getting it activated with TWC, there was no delayed dial tone or any of the other issues that I had noticed. However, a few hours later, the delay was back and as of 2 minutes ago, it's still there and I'm right where I left off with the Toshiba cable modem. The tests still show that my packet loss from the server to me is in the 20-30% range, so I guess my next step will be to push the issue with TWC.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome!

I went back to the Toshiba because my download speeds with the Linksys were only 2-3, while they're 7-9 with the Toshiba. Here are the results of the test right after getting the Toshiba up and running:

You're getting the same amount of packetloss with and without the WRTP54G connected to your cable modem correct? If you haven't already, I would set up an appointment with a TW tech and have them check your connection. While he's there, run the Voip test from http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/ so he can see the resulting packetloss you are experiencing. You may also want to remove your Vonage device before he shows up so he doesn't dismiss this as a Vonage issue. He may not even notice your WRTP54G as a Vonage device, but I'm certain that he will remove it anyway and check the connection directly from your cable modem to your PC.

Did you have a chance to check with any of your neighbors to see if their connections are experiencing the same type of packetloss?

You are correct - I was seeing the same packet loss with and without the router connected. I'll try to set up an appointment so that I can show them what I'm seeing.

I have not had a chance to talk to any of my neighbors. Most of them are older, so I'm not really sure what the computer availability is, but I will investigate this further and post any new information.
