"Telephone line is not provisioned for use."
I have been hearing this message from my telephone for about a week now and can not connect to the internet and can't make or get outgoing/incoming calls. I found another topic with a person with the same problem which can be found here.
I tried the first solution that was listed but to no success. And his second solution about logging into the router and enabling "MAC Address Cloning", and cloning the address of my PC was something I couldn't do. Don't I need to have an internet connection and have the VT2142 connected to that computer specifically to access that page (192.168.15.1)? |

Ohnoes,
A couple of things come to mind. First how is your network set up? Is it Cable Internet -> Modem -> VT2142 -> computer?
It would be helpful.
Another question, did you buy this at a store or did you order it at Vonage?
In order to clone the MAC address, you will need to connect your computer directly to the VT2142 and type in the address 192.168.15.1 in your IE or Firefox web browser.
Let us know if this helps. If it is not provisioned, it could be either that it cannot access the internet or that the account has not been properly set up. Believe it or not, we have heard stories of people receiving the router from Vonage directly and found it to be improperly set up. So that's why I ask. |

Actually, that's exactly how it is set up. And we ordered Vonage. We had it since around the beginning of January and has worked well up until now. |

Oh, well that's information that is very helpful. it might very well be a bad unit. If you don't have both internet and phone, I'd be concerned. Can you access your Vonage router when connected directly to the computer by typing in the IP address? |

The only reason why someone would clone their MAC address is to gain access to the internet the first time. But according to your earlier post, you had this whole system working fine for the last 8 months which makes me seriously doubt that this MAC cloning would do anything for you.
Here is how you would do it with the VT2142.
1. Once you log into it 2. Select the Setup tab at the top. 3. Near the bottom, it should say Override MAC and there is a check box next to it. 4. Select it and enter in the MAC address of your computer in the next field.
Unfortunately, I do not see a MAC clone button on this so you will have to look it up on your computer.
Go to Start | Run
Type cmd In the new window, type ipconfig /all your MAC address of your network card should be there. The MAC address uses the niumber zero, not the letter O. Hope this helps.
let us know if this fixes it for you. |

I have the same problem after over 2 years of service. After a lot of useless cut and paste emails from support they told me I needed to go out and buy a new device.
I'm just going to cancel service rather than buy some overpriced lousy router they should be giving me for free to keep my business. |

Well, very strange thing, all of a sudden the line started working again and my internet was up and running. But I soon noticed that I can't use the phone and the computer at the same time like I used to. If I get incoming calls or make outgoing calls, the internet freezes or crashes. If someone is on the phone already, and if I try using the internet, the phone stops working.
Time for a new service? |
