Haven't signed up with Vonage yet, but they won't tell me who installers/technicians are in Tulsa until I do, then they say they'll set up an appointment. I'd like to get the information before I commit to sign up. Anyone know who's installing Vonage in the Tulsa area? Would just be for residential use, trying to save money from our Cox "bundled" cable/Internet/telephone bill.
Thanks!

Any particular reason you are wanting an installer? I'm in Tulsa, have experience with Vonage / Cox setup, there is not much to it.

But, as to your specific question, I don't know who they might use.

You don't need an installer, very easy to hook up and you can save yourself $100 or whatever they are charging.

you do not need an installer for that. The installer is only needed if you want to use your homewiring. You can call tech support to help you install your device.I guess you have a Cox cable connection..right??.the thing is that if you have a cable connection, you need to do a MAC clone to your device..its really easy..but it is done in different ways for different device...you can check for pro install thru vonage.com you just type in your ZIP code..use this link...http://vonage.com/features.php?feature=pro_install&refer_id=WEBIN0706010001W1

Careful with blanket statements like this . . . in fact, Cox cable in Tulsa does NOT require MAC cloning for your router to work.

But, again, the important thing is -- installing your Vonage is easy, unless there is something you've not mentioned, kjtar.

Well, I just wanted to ask someone who had knowledge of Vonage and could tell us what was needed, what the costs were, etc. I'm not very computer savvy, but here goes. Yes, we have Cox internet, phone, and cable tv in their "bundled" package. I think my wife's laptop is the main connection, but of course I have one to my computer as well. So, would I need one Vonage adapter or 2? And, once we disconnect the land line Cox telephone wires from the outside box (I hope) then will we be able to still use our phone jack plug in extension phones around the house? Lastly, I guess, is there a way to still use our fax machine with Vonage? We don't need it often, but when we do it's usually pretty important.
Thanks a lot,
Tom

kjtar,

I just sent you a private message (PM) with my local phone number, feel free to give me a call if you'd like to talk through some of your questions!

You will only need one Vonage adapter, the computer connections don't matter, only the Intenet connection, presumably the Cox cable modem.

Faxing is a tricky subject -- Vonage offers a fax line for about $10 a month, but if you are trying to just occassionally use it on your main line, it CAN work, but sometimes requires a bit of effort, and some fax machines work better than others. There is a whole forum here on this site dedicated to things like faxing, alarm systems, Tivo connections, etc. -- you should be sure and check that out!

yeah your right.even comcast doesn't need MAC cloning..but if ever the device does not connect. The possibility is that it needs a MAC clone.

And for your home wiring.you need to unplug the line from Cox on your Demarc.Vonage has the steps on their website. Here is the link:
