Connection Speed test consistently at 500KbPs

Vonage Modem:
Motorola VT2142-VD

Netgear Router:
RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 2.4GHz 802.11g

Telephone: (Cordless)
Phillips High Def Voice CD440Duo, DECT 6.0

I am getting poor audio quality. Very choppy.
Any suggestions?

You posted your SPEED, but understand that speed is just one small part of the Voip equation. Please run the Speed Test and post the COMPLETE results.

As someone who had wireless Internet with Vonage in the past, I suspect what you are experiencing is very high JITTER, which will result in choppy calls. Although I was able to get an ACCEPTABLE call quailty for the year + that I had wireless and Vonage (still have Vonage, just no longer have wireless), I did have jitter in the 15 - 20ms range, and that did make for some choppiness. Around the best I EVER tested on wireless was jitter of 11ms and quailty of 60%. Cable and DSL connections in my area usually have jitter of <5ms and quality >95% by comparison.

Please do the test and post full results!

I was having very poor audio quality for the past two weeks here in Ohio. It was my internet cable provider, WideOpenWest.

Speed was great; QOS was lousy.

Thanks for the update, but you are still missing one CRITICAL piece of information -- jitter.

When you run the speed test, on the results page, there is a link for "Advanced" information. On that page, there is a link for "View Text". When you view text, it will give you results that are easy to cut and paste into here. I've copied a sample at the bottom. You will see it lists "Jiiter", both You to the server and the server to you. In the sample I pasted below, even though it reports 99% quality of service and enough speed to support 5 voice lines, the jitter is so high as to make Voip almost unusable (good would be under 5, my sample is over 500.

The Quality of Service on your line is very low, and I am especially concerned about jitter you might be experiencing, so please test one more time and try to get those complete results pasted here!

I have been working with my ISP and they suggested that I change my router to channel 11, plus they upgraded my PowerStation2 Modem firmware (modem on my tower). Now my Vonage signal is doing very well.

Thanks for pointing to a good place to test my Voip connection. Sent the test results to my ISP and it was very helpful to them in resolving the issue.

Great! Thanks for the update and I'm glad it is working well now. It is so nice to encounter an ISP that will make the effort to improve the little things about a connection when it doesn't make much difference to the "average" user experience, like surfing and e-mail!

I have had some choppy outgoing audio, so I tried the speed test. I tried the speed test at work just for fun and it worked fine on my laptop. However, at home where I really care (i.e. have Vonage on a cable modem connected by ethernet (netgear)) on both the laptop and my desktop my browser shuts down in the middle of the test. Any suggestions?
