we have the Vonage links sys modem and a Motorola wireless modem for our internet w/ one port on the back for the liine.Unfortunately our Vonage no longer works. We found that we either have to be hooked up for the Vonage to use phone but then have no internet.
Or if we hook up to the internet then we can't use the phone.
This has been a real problem from the day we first got wireless. Are we hooking something up wrong? We have done every possible configuration you can imagine. While we still had the phone we called Vonage Tech support and they did the same thing;all possible configurations-with no reults. We ended up losing them on the phone anyway. We gave up and now have NO PHONE service at all!!
My husband and i both have health issues as do my parents. We cannot do without a phone one minute longer.Help!! ASAP!

First of all, please explain to us what devices you have, including model numbers. That's paramount.

Secondly, read the sticky at the top of this page and provide us with all of that information too. We can help, we just need all the info.

I would look at the default Gateway IP Address of both devices and make sure they are not the same. For example, many devices use 192.168.1.1 as a default gateway (or router IP Address).
If both of your devices have this setting then you will experience issues like the one mentioned.

i dion't even see the Vonage link sys devide listed.
I have usb net gear wireless for the wireless connection but the second i enable the Lan connection it says limited or no connectivity.meaning no phone.
are you sure there isn't an actual conflict between wireless and the Vonage device.
how can it show an address when it's not even finding a device?
I'd calll tech support...but NO PHONE.i can temporarily disable the wireless connection(meaning no internet)and call tech support unless you can come up with some idea of what is going on here. It's not showing the device at all.Yet when i enable the LAN it at least says limited or no connectivity..meaning NO PHONE.
but it at least shows the lan is enabled

You can't tell what type (model) of Vonage device you have? Flip it over and look for a barcode and the model number should be listed somewhere there.

Without going into too much detail. Just like you mentioned, the two devices are causing a conflict. Think of a default gateway (router's IP address) as a house number where no two houses on the same street can have the same number.
Your Vonage device wants to own house number 100 and the wireless device also wants to own house number 100. This won't work.
Let's say your inside those two houses are rooms for rent (or lease) with both the Vonage and wireless attempting to lease out the same rooms to the same tenant (your USB wireless) at the same time. BINGO, you now have a real conflict and this is consistent with your report of getting "limited connectivity."

What you have to do is read (yes, I said the 'R' word) the manual of one of the devices and learn how to change its default gateway to another number. If it is set to 192.168.1.1 simply changing it to 192.168.2.1 will do the trick. Only one device needs to be changed.

ok.back again with some info.
Sorry.Got tied up all day attempting ot get the phone to work.
We bought a 5 port hub.didn't help.
So here is all the info:
we have a Time warner motorola cable modem
the Linksys rpt 300 phone modem;MODEL NO
RPT 300.i know ..flipped it over.
We gave up and disconnected everything so we could have an internet connection.
Keep in mind that the Motorola only has one port on the back to plug in the cable and that has to go to the computer for the internet connection to work.
We kept getting a message that the cable was unplugged when we had the linksys hooked up.The problem was that it was not.
As soon as we removed the link sys device and phone etc. and went back to the internet connection(no phone though)-no problem.
So you're saying if we change the address that should do it?
What then happens to our internet connection if we change our ip address?
Won't we lose that then?
And where do we change this? Can we? I thought this was determined by the provider?
We need an answer asap.At this point we have no phone and in our situation we definitely need one.Husband and i are not best of health.
We were using my mother's cell phone but the min ran out.BIG PROBLEM THOUGH:where do you change the address at?
We'd be wlling to try this but where do you change the address at? You can't..unless youi know something we don't.
Scratches head.
HELP!!!!!!!!

You should go in to detail because you pulled that straight out of your arse. You don't even know what equipment they have or how it is being hooked up.

Time Warner residential subscribers are not static IP's. They can't possibly follow your advice to change a device IP.

Forget all of that crap. You'll be deeper in the doo than you are right now if you go screwing with configs.

Do what navydavy asked. List your networking hardware and how it is all hooked up as your explanation jumps around and leaves out key details.

Are your running the modem to the hub and then Vonage and computer to that? Are you trying to plug one at a time into the modem? How are you doing this?
