Changing the IP of the router does not change your internet IP address. Got to a site that tells you your IP address. It will not be anywhere close to your router IP. You have an IP conflict. You cannot have 2 routers with the same IP. 1 needs to be changed. Almost all routers have the same IP. 192.168.1.1 is the standard IP for routers.

i almost decided to give this up when i was told i pulled this straight out of my ...i don't have to tolerate that kind of lanugagte or rudeness. Especially having to go through alll to get our linksys from Vonage to work with our motorola wireless so we can keep Vonage.

Afterall we're setting alll this up on our own..when roadrunner would provide a tech to come to our residence.I don't use this kind of language and it doesn't take a genius to be polite.

I found the model no of the linksys exactlly where i was told to look.
We tried so many diff hook ups that i couldn't begiin to tell you how we had it set up.But we called tech support back when we had phone(no internet)and they also had us change the set up every way you can imagine.Still didin't work.
The Motorola Wireless modem from Time Warner is the SBG900 Surfboard Gateway.
iI assume that IS the model no?
I can't telll you how we had it set up because we had it set up every way you can think of.I'm sorry. We changed it so often i honestly can't recall.
Will read through the other posts here to see if we can fix this with the info you've provided.
The Wireless modem is from Time Warner and the min they know you have Vonage they will not help.
We also had the message cable unplugged when it wasn't.Ok.HOW DO you change the router address?
We have never done this before.never had to.

Had that response been to you, you would have a point. If you will go back and read it again you will see that the comment was directed at someone else......

if it wasn't intended for me then i owe an apology. But it still doesn't take a genius to be polite and using that kind of language(i know what 'pulling it out of your ...is)isn't necessary.
Even if it hadn't been for me was it really neccessary to reply llike that?

This is why business's lose customers.Used to be the customer was alrways right.Ppl weren't rude and obnoxious.Nowadays you're lucky if you get a live person to speak with.Back in the day they not only pumped your gas for you-they washed the windows and checked your oil as well.

Those days are gone and they say we've 'progressed'.I use the term loosely.Again it doesn't take a genius to be polite.Anyway,i'm sorry if i jumped to conclusions.Perhaps just some frustration on my part.
I looked up how to change router address and i think i get it now.
But any help here is appreciated.
I am very upset w/ Time Warner roadrunner. Even when the connection lost is theirs they won't help at all if you have Vonage.
That's ridiculous. We get their high speed internet. We chose Vonage for phone. So they make it difficult so you'll give up Vonage for their phone service. That's just not right especiallly when we've had their cable service for years. I've gone on enough about this.
Any help is appreicated. If there's anything i missed pls let me know!!
We'll try and change the router address and see how that goes!
Again,thank you.
Will keep in touch.

You aren't my customer and this forum isn't connected with Vonage in any way, so I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly.

As opposed to spending time on a family values lesson let's get back to your problem no?

I would not change the settings of anything at this point.

Go like this and tell if it works:

1. Ethernet cable from cable modem ---> WAN port on Linksys phone adapter.
2. Ethernet cable from computer --> LAN port on Linksys.

WAN and LAN are marked on the Linksys adapter. If they aren't, that model is a 2 port router, meaning there will be three ethernet ports on the back. The one that sits off by itself a little is the WAN. The two bunched together are the LAN.

There should not be ANY need to change settings on any device. I have a setup where my Linksys is a router and I have a router behind it. I have a setup where my Linksys router is on the other side of a wireless router. I have never changed a single internal config that wasn't directly related to a static IP address which you don't have.

And as TWC goes, you are in essence asking them to provide free installation and training for another company's product. That's not gonna happen any more than the phone company coming out to set up your new fax machine. They didn't sell it to you, you aren't paying them for the service. They sold you Internet access and as long as you are legal you are on your own to do with it what you will.

Thanks and those were some of the things we already tried. When we do of course we have a phone-but then we have no internet connection. One of the times we set up phone and then tried to connect it said we had cable unplugged. We did not.
The motorola modem that Time Warner provides goes like this:
plug in for adapter at bottom
Coaxial Cable connection
1 port at top for cable modem line
I don't know if this has any bearing but it's a motorola wireless from Time Warner.

Sure we can have the Vonage phone. But then we have no internet. Then we have the internet, but no phone. We can have either one but we cannot run both at the same time. We could do it that way but who wants to set up a connection for the internet every time they want to go online?
Yep,the Vonage works.Yep roadrunner works. Not the issue. You cannot run these simultaneously and there is no port on the roadrunner Motorola except for ONE line.
What are we doing wrong here? Can't figure it out.And the advice to change router address sounded reasonable because we know both modems work ...just not at the same time.
Thanks..Hope someone can figure this out soon. We're thinking of giving up,switching to roadrunner digital but that's 50.00 per month and we're already paying 50.00 for cable.I can't really afford 100.00 per month.I've been pleased w/ service from Vonage so far.Never had problems until they switched to these one port Mortorola's at Time Warner.
Pulling hair out from frustration.[B]

Sounds to me like 2.4 Ghz wireless internet with 2.4 Ghz phones interaction issues. Connect the RPT300 to the Motorola Cable Modem. Connect a corded (not cordless phone) to the RTP300. I bet the phone and internet work fine at the same time. DON"T USE A 2.4 GHZ CORDLESS PHONE! I use Motorola 5.8 Ghz cordless phones and they don't have interaction issues with wireless routers or access points.

it worked for a few days and then our internet went down again. We took off the Vonage device and our internet connection was fine.We have decided we have no choice but to switch to Roadrunner Dig phone.
We must have a phone because of health issues in our family.
No choice.
There is just something about Time Warner's Modem and the linksys device.
Thanks for all the help but we have given up.If my husband had more patience we might try something else, but after all this he's just too frustrated.
i hate to lose vonage.have been perfectly happy with their service up till now and i'm none too thrilled about the cost of roadrunner digital phone.
Oh well....if husband sez that's the way it goes.
