It sounds as if Vonage has a problem that only affects some people. So they "solved" it by saying everyone has to hit #. No one complains when it works without hitting #. |

Some thoughts on this....
In 3 years 8 months of Vonage
- I've never pushed pound after leaving VM on my own Vonage phone (from cell, work, etc) and never lost a VM.
- I've never had a caller complain about me not responding to VM left on my Vonage phone (with the caller presumably seldom pushing #).
That said, The message should be changed to one I've heard on other VM systems:
"When you are done with your message, you may hang up or press # for other options."
This would eliminate a lot of confusion. Except for the fact that what we call the pound sign (#) the Brits call the hash sign. They think of the sign for pound sterling as the pound sign and if you look at the Vonage UK site, you'll see multiple complaints on the issue. |

Once they switch to euros the Brits will have to find
something else to complain about :-)

My point is that if you call Vonage tech support (I've talked to three different reps) they claim that a caller HAS to push # or the voicemail will not be left. Clearly this is often/sometimes/nearly always NOT the case. But it is also SOMETIMES true. So, they're not going to change the message if it's their party line that the # has to be pushed.
I'll bet there's some technical issue involved that causes messages to be lost in certain circumstances, so instead of fixing the problem, they just cover their asses by saying the # must be pushed. |
