We're a small business with one telephone line and one fax line. We currently have a 2.5 year old Linksys RT31P2, which is failing and would like to replace it with a new router/adapter. I've read about the Motorola products VT2142 & VT2442, but am unable to purchase either directly from Vonage (without setting up a new account) nor am I able to find it for sale from an outside source. So, I am wondering if others with small businesses can recommend a Vonage tel adapter/router?
We are interested in a device that offers multiple ports (such as VT2442), QoS setting and port forwarding.
Thanks. |

Maybe a little off track, but why the heck won't Vonage sell you an adapter to use with your account? Absolutely ridiculous!! You have been a customer for 2.5 years and your original routers is going bad and they won't even sell you a new adapter? Obviously you are outside the warranty period but I still can't understand why the company that provides the service can't ship a new adapter and charge you for it. It sounds like the VT2442 would be perfect for you and the company that provides the service won't give you one. That's funny. I've seen some pretty good reviews about those routers here. You could search the forum for some suggestions. Or better yet, call Vonage and tell them you want the Motorola adapter or you can take your business elsewhere. If you try hard enough, I'm sure you can get one shipped. Funny that you have to fight tooth and nail to PAY for a new adapter from your service provider. Vonage keeps losing more of my respect every month. |

Well, I tried that. I spent 30 minutes on the phone thinking I had accomplished this, but then received an email confirmation that I had actually opened a new account (with a new phone number). Which I was never advised of and probably said 10 times that I wanted the new router for an existing account and number. So, I had to call back and spend another 30 minutes canceling the new account (that I never opened)?? During that call I was advised that I cannot purchase either modem (Motorola VT2142/2442) directly through Vonage unless I want to set up a new account. Yes, it does sound bizarre. And I questioned it many times, but in the end that was the answer.
Searches for other places to buy the VT2142/2442 have yielded nothing...seems to be sold from Vonage only.
Anyway, am hoping someone can shed some light on where to buy one or other positive experiences with other router/modem/adapters. Thanks. |

You are right. You can only buy it from Vonage. Perhaps ebay, but that is not recommended. You will also notice that all you can buy retail are ATAs and a couple ATA/Router combos that don't have great reviews or history. At least from what I've seen for sale retail. That's why it's incredibly stupid that you can't buy probably the best ATA/Router combo available now, from Vonage. So it looks like you may have to buy a good stand alone router with QOS plus just an ATA to use with it. That will probably cost you more in the long run. Personally, I would call back and talk with someone else. Tell them I've been a customer for 2.5 years and transfer me to the Cancellation Dept if they don't want to give me a new adapter. Sound ridiculous but i've read several posts where that is exactly what people have had to do to get a new device from Vonage. |

I have a Linksys/Vonage router and have no complaints. I purchased this from Staples or the Office Depot, they were getting rid of them, cost around $60 or so.
You could always call and tell them you want to cancel and give them the reason why. |
