I am wondering if anyone on here has used the Vonage Talk Alpha program and if you have been able to call non-Vonage numbers.
I have read in other forums that this is possible, but I can't do it. I can only call Vonage numbers. |

Do you have a link to more information about that? I've never heard of Vonage Talk Alpha. |

Is it linked with your account somehow? Do you sign in with the same username and password as your main Vonage account? The description sounds like you can make calls. I have no need for it at home but maybe it's something to try if you are away from home. |

You sign in with the same user name and password as you with Vonage. You require a headset with mic.
I travel to Europe a couple times a month and phone calls are expensive to make, this would solve that and the calls aren't counted against your Vonage account. |

I tried it calling from my cell phone. It worked. The problem I'm having is seeing any purpose to it?? Why would I need such a thing? Wouldn't it be easier for all concerned to just e-mail my phone number rather then a hyperlink to a web page where they can call me from? I must be missing something. |

Ok, you are referring to the V-Me application. That is a good idea for people who live in areas that are not covered by the V-access numbers and the call they want to make is long distance.
This is also good if you don't want to give out your phone number.
For me, I live in area that is long distance for my neighbor to call me. Vonage doesn't have local numbers nor do they have a V-access number. My neighbor calls me using V-Me and the call is free for them. |

I downloaded and installed this program and it works great! The call quality is really good. I was able to call non-Vonage numbers without any problems. When making a call, you have to enter the area code even if it's a local call. I also get an error that says "Couldn't connect to host" but I'm still able to make calls.
Thanks roscopco for posting this Vonage feature. I initially thought it was only for V-phone users. |

I thought you could only make calls to other Vonage users, but I was informed on another forum that I was wrong.
I called tech support in Canada and I was told there is a problem with the server and that is why I can't make any calls at all. I just wish they could get it up and running.
I believe that the calls are not being counted against your account, could you confirm this? Also can you be using Vonage Talk and someone using your Vonage phone at the same time?
With the old Vonage talk you could have any name come up on the call display, but with this one you don't have the option. |

The calls that I have made with Vonage talk, do NOT appear in my "Placed Calls" list on my web account so I would say no, they don't count against your account minutes. If one is on the basic 500 minute plan, you may want to verify this with Vonage if the minutes count against your account. If you're on the unlimited plan, it shouldn't matter.
If I make a call from Vonage Talk to my Vonage phone, my web account does display the "Received call". The received call is not displayed as a number, but is displayed as your username that you use to sign-in to your web account. The "username" (not a number)also appears on the caller ID information when you make a call from Vonage Talk to your Vonage phone...This might also apply to other Vonage phone users. I can't say for certain because I don't know anyone that I call that uses Vonage. If you make a call from Vonage Talk to a traditional land line or cell phone, your Vonage phone number will appear on the called party's caller ID.
I was able to use Vonage Talk and my Vonage phone at the same time, how cool is that! I would also add that the call quality and reception with Vonage Talk is very good...This may be dependant upon the quality of headset and mic that you have. |
