Correct order of modem, router, switch, smoothwall, phone

Currently using modem -> Linksys wireless/wired router -> GB 7-port switch -> computers and printer.

Want to change it to use "Smoothwall" version 3 on a dedicated computer as a firewall. It would have 3 outputs; RED to internet; ORANGE (DMZ) to Vonage box (D-Link VTA-CV); and GREEN to a wireless/wired router then to a GB 7-port switch and then onto a mixture of wired and wireless computers and printer.

I really need to impose on someone for some detailed help as to the exact order to link things together and and especially how/what IP addresses (DCHP?) to use in the Smoothwall config and the router. I run an FPT server on one computer and a small website on another so each computer has a static IP address.

Would anyone be kind enough to give me some step by step hand-holding either by private message or 'phone? I am definitely not a computer novice - but in this area I sure feel like on! !<grin>! !

Even with your Vonage adapter on a DMZ, the Smoothwall machine would still need to do NAT. You'd end up with a double-NAT situation (Smoothwall and your router) which I personally don't like, although some have had success with it. Given that you're running servers behind your router, the port forwarding could get "messy".

Why not put the Vonage adapter behind your router, either directly or on a switch port - shouldn't matter.
