I find myself becoming more and more disappointed with the softphone/v-phone options.
I feel the advertising was misleading.
I spent the majority of my day at the computer. I signed up for vonage thinking "great I can handle my calls from my PC". Right and so wrong.
Softphone's ridiculous 'add another number charge extra', no thank you.
V-phone, I'm not sure about but if I can't use the headest already on my head for most of the day, why bother.
I already have the hassle of a cell phone, do I REALLY need another handset, or headset you mess around with, when I already have suitable equipment on my head?!?!
Vonage give us break here.
I can't see why V-phone can use same number but softphone can't.
V-phone seems tied to (what looks to be) a cheap cell phone type earbud.
Not to mention with Softphone I can't even get a LOCAL number!
If I find that there is no solution to this, I regrettably will go with another service.
I wanted vonage as a convenience not another complication. |

I just signed up for vonage a few days ago and am currently having my business line ported over. After reading this I'm nervous.
My intent, like the original poster, is to have all callls go to my ported business number through my PC. Sounds like this won't be an option.
Why would vonage limit us like this?
I don't even care if it cost me the same $90 a month that it did before for phones... I'm not doing it to save money, but to have a phone line I can take anywhere as I travel. The V-Phone is a piece of junk. I want a headset that I can use wirelessly with a good quality headset. |

I have the Vonage V-Phone, and use it for my home office number. I was using a $10 headset that plugged into my computer. You just changed the settings on the V-Phone from C-Media to whatever the Windows shows as your default mic and speakers. Now I'm using a bluetooth headset that has a USB receiver and an over the ear microphone headset. It works great. As I said on another post, the only drawback I've found so far is I can't answer an incoming call with my headset. I have to return to the PC and answer the call.
Hope this helps! I don't know what kind of headset you're using, but if you can plug it into the PC, you can use it. Just don't do away with the one that comes with the V-Phone. You never know when you may need it, especially if you plug into another computer. |

Vonage USB SoftPhone kit or V-Phone is a USB key-chain device that can be plugged into any USB port on any Windows-based computer to provide instant Internet calling from your VoIP number or receive call on the number at the same low price across the world. The Vonage USB SoftPhone kit consists of a USB key that preloaded with Vonage software with your account ID and its own jack for standard cell-phone earphones plus a headset.Once the USB Key VoIP phone been plugged into any PC, the software will run and let you make and receive the call with your Internet telephone service.

They say "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." I subscribed to Vonage over 2 years ago and have two different lines with a UTStarcom wifi phone for each.
Now, my wifi devices are loosing their charge and I can't find any support because UTStarcom and Vonage are no longer affiliated. I looked for replacement batteries and chargers online but can't find anything.
I wouldn't be so upset, except that I have a Macbook and can't use V-Talk OR V-Phone.
I travel regularly enough and used to love setting up office in any coffee house with a wifi connection with my wifi phone. Now what am I supposed to do? Ask the owners to plug my V-Portal into their broadband?
I don't want to change my number(s) because one is for my office and one is for my home. But I don't want to pay for an extra line either.
I suppose that I'm a bit confused.
Can anyone tell me the best and easiest solution for a Mac user on the road?
I feel like I'm back on a land line.
Thanks[hr] |
