I had a rep from Clearwire stop by our office yesterday, trying to convenience us to switch from our DSL provider to Clearwire service. He left me with a device to test. I wanted to see how it works with Vonage and our Vonage router (which we use as a network to connect four PCs in our office). Currently, we use DHL and I noticed when customers call us while another associate is surfing the web, the conversation breaks up. I didn't know if a better connection - maybe Clearwire - would prevent that?

Oh well, so when I install the Clearwire device straight to my PC, I can get online immediately. BUT when I run the Clearwire device to my Vonage router and from that to my PCs, I notice that the internet light on the Vonage router lights up, along with the four ethernet slots (computers are detected), but the two telephone lines are down and I can't surf the web!

I called Vonage and they told me that they couldn't communicate with my router.

I called Clearwire and they claim that the issue is on Vonage's end because after hooking the Clearwire device straight to my PC, it's obvious that it works and establishes connection.

I think that the router might be filtering or blocking the Clearwire signal and I read somewhere of issues and/or complications that existed between Clearwire and Vonage.

Has anybody else experienced any issues at all?

Your router may have some special WAN-side configuration that allows it to connect to your old service, but not to the new one. Your PC, on the other hand, may not be configured that way. If you plug your PC directly in to the old service, does it connect to the internet?

When you have the router plugged into Clearwire, can the PCs see the internet or is it all dead?

your previous provider in DSL and Clearwire appears to be cable. It would require a different configuration in your Vonage router. You'd have to configure it for "obtain IP address automatically" instead of any PPoE or other settings needed for DSL.

Maybe, or maybe not. Not all DSL requires PPPoE, nor is there any hard-fast rule that says one or the other is dynamic or static IP, even on business class service.

Clearwire is actually over power lines and there is A LOT of interference in their lines. I would imagine that the signal is just too noisy.

First thing is to see if he gets any internet connectivity (for the PCs) when he plugs the router into Clearwire.

Re. line noise-- Voip is a digital service, not analog. Line noise isn't going to affect Vonage unless it results in packet loss or excessive jitter. The fact Vonage cannot see his TA from their end suggests a base internet connectivity issue. Hence, the reason I want to know if his PCs can see the internet when the router is plugged into Clearwire.
