So, here is a strange one.
Our network has two Bufflalo wireless routers on it (wired together and forming a common wireless net). Connection is through Comcast and we see 6MBits/sec consistently. Here is the bizarre part: we have two Vonage devices hanging off of this configuration.
My device is a VT2442; the other is a VT2142. My device has been in my possession for well over a year and has been working flawlessly. In fact, I moved with this device cross-country, and it has been performing without fail on this new network. However, the VT2142 is a new device for my roommate's phone and fax, and she sees problems with calls and faxes.
Specifically, she experiences the following: **Intermittent problem with calls dropping **Intermittent problems with faxes not being received (however, when I fax from work it *always* works) **Intermittent problems sending faxes **Intermittent problem with not hearing anyone on the line when answering or making a call ("can you hear me? can you hear me now?"
I have tested this line over and over, and the simple truth is that the line connection through Comcast is solid - in fact, it screams. I have rebuilt the network with new routers AND replaced the telephone, and still she experiences these problems.
Anybody ever seen this before? If so, what is the solution? If not, any recommendation on what I have to tell the Vonage folks overseas to get to one of the techs? Many thanks in advance, Chris |

Please post all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum.
For what it's worth, the thought of two wireless routers working together gives me the shakes. You might want to try setting one of them aside for a bit. |

Sorry for the delay in replying, been a busy week. 1. Bay Area, California 2. Comcast - Cable 3. 384/6000 4. Motorola (?) Surfboard SB3100 5. VT2142 6. Modem --> Buffalo Wireless Router --> VT2142 7. Dropped calls - very intermittent, but usually once per day. 8. Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 5093984 bps Upload speed: 367336 bps Quality of service: 97 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 33 ms Average download pause: 2 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 93 ms Average round trip time to server: 100 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 2.6 ms Jitter: server --> you: 9.0 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 6 Estimated MOS score: 3.9
As for the two wireless, I have been doing that for quite some time - long before Vonage ever came into my life. Essentially, they are hard wired, but share the same SSID and encryption key. It is one of the best ways to have a single network throughout your home. |

You're right, the test results indicate that the cable is pretty solid. If this test was made with a computer plugged into the Buffalo router, you might want to repeat the test with the computer plugged into the VT2142 LAN side. Hopefully you'll get equally good results.
What does the rest of your network look like? Are there any cordless phones in this mix? |

Yes, cordless are in the mix, but they are DECT - which I highly recommend if you have wireless routers and microwaves. I'll try the test going direct to the 2142 later. |

Sorry for the delay in getting these results to the forum. Things have been really crazy, but the dropped call issue is still occurring. Here is the test result when connecting the VT2142 direct to the cable modem:
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 4488536 bps Upload speed: 369536 bps Quality of service: 95 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 52 ms Average download pause: 2 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 118 ms Average round trip time to server: 125 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 2.5 ms Jitter: server --> you: 8.6 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 6 Estimated MOS score: 3.9 |
