I am looking to distribute the lines on my Vonage connection to multiple RJ-45 jacks in my office. I need to know which lines are the active ones in the the cable so I can connect them to my Line Distribution Board (Punchdown).Web Page Name. (I have just the distribution module.)
I currently have 2 lines (1 phone & 1 fax). I am just trying to find out which wires are the "active" ones in each cable (ie is it the green pair, blue pair, orange pair, or brown pair.)
I have seen one tech list it as being the blue pair, but I want to be sure it is the same for all/in all wires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Unfortunately, you can't tell by just looking, and there is never any guarantee that the wiring in your office is to the normal standards. That said, your technician is correct. The blue/blue-white pair is normally line 1, and the orange/orange-white pair is normally line 2. This link may help: http://www.hometech.com/learn/wiringst.html#section1 .
You know, of course, to disconnect any landlines from the wiring that you're going to use for Vonage. However, if landlines are still connected and still active, and if you have a voltmeter, it's a simple matter to measure the voltage across pairs to determine which are active. Look for 50 volts or so with the phone on-hook and near zero with the phone off-hook.
With an RJ45 (as opposed to an RJ11), all four pairs should be active in the sense that they are connect to contacts in the jack. However, with standard wiring the ones I indicated are the ones that a phone plugged in to the jack will pick up. |

A picture without Manufacturer and model doesn't do much good.
How do the analog jacks from the Vonage adapter get connected to this module?
Is the module wired T568A or B?
