Vonage
support's always been... okay... But this takes the cake
I think the Moto VT2142 I got for free was a dud, one of the RJ11 jacks was malfunctioning, and the router interface is HORRIBLE!
Port forwarding nveer works, constant needs too reboot, Low quality calls, over throttles my 'net
I have made currently 63 calls too
Vonage
regarding the device, Not counting about 12 when I was hung-up on or disconnected. It took me 36 calls when I got sick of it and requested a Linksys RTP300.
If youare gonna get
Vonage
, Run too ebay or look for a retail store with a PAP or a RTP device. You won't regret it! Everything actually works! These Motorola routers are crap!! I've always had quality from Linksys, then when I stop
Vonage
after a year or two, I'll get too keep the linksys and unlock it... I cant unlock, nor use the Motorola properly, the Demilitarized Zone feature was intermittent, It would have DAYS of not syncing too
Vonage
, No port forwarding, no DDNS, no UPNP, no DMZ, and bad quality calls, the Linksys sounds great, everything works, I have no complains..... well
it just blinks like crazy.....
Refurbished RTP300 > New Moto 2142
(Oh, and the extra ports are worth it, Don't get a VT 2442, Don't let
Vonage
make you go out and buy a device and get credit, They do have these, but it takes you a while too get them. Don't go too Account Management until your really desperate, pissed, and you have a nice big call log (they screwed my order up worse, it's funny, she really wanted too keep me as a customer, when she tried too charge me for another VT2142
If you can, people, stop buying the current stuff, start buying Linksys until they bring them back...... The D-Links and Motorola's are horrible......
Enough ranting,

Just to provide an alternate viewpoint I have a VT2442 and have used it for the past year+ with no trouble. I got it for free at the start of my service and at the time I believe it was the only free device offered which made my choice to go with it easy. I had no intention of using it as a router as I have a Sonicwall at the head of my network, so I really can't comment on the router functionality of it. Even if it was a horrible router I wouldn't mind as I have no need for it to function in that capacity. As for its phone functionality I couldn't be happier. I can't tell the difference between my old standard landline and my
Vonage
line nor can the people I call, it's crystal clear. I have never needed to reboot it even once. I have it shoved off in a corner ontop of one of my speakers and I can't remember even touching it after its initial install. Never had any experience where it lost sync with Vonage's servers.
If you only tried one VT2142 and it was already at least semi-defective(bad port) when it came to you, you may have just gotten an all around broken device. Further, if you made 63 calls to
Vonage
then you weren't talking to the right people. If you got to someone in NJ and asked them for a new device, with the problems you were having I can't imagine them saying no. Their outsourced help is absolutely worthless, even more so in your case since you probably didn't fall into their scripted troubleshooting routines.
