Been using the Vonage service for over a year with no real problems. All of a sudden, yesterday morning I woke up and there were no leds lit up on the Vtech 8100-1 adapter. I removed the power cord and plugged it back in and the ready light went red, blinked yellow several times and then just went off again.
I tried different outlets and different power supplies (before customer service even replied to the message I sent and came back with just those ideas), but there's only brief flashes on the leds before it dies again.
Here's the info that the "what to post when having issues" post asked for.....though I doubt any of it is really relevant to my issue:
Location: Riverside, (southern) California ISP: Time Warner Cable Upload/Download speeds: See speed test data below Modem make/model: Ambit U10C018 Vonage adapter: Vtech IP8100-1 Network setup: PC and Vonage both go into router Issue: Stated above Results of speed test: Pasted below
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 1432080 bps Upload speed: 368400 bps Quality of service: 86 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 189 ms Average download pause: 8 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 109 ms Average round trip time to server: 116 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 2.4 ms Jitter: server --> you: 8.3 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 6 Estimated MOS score: 3.9
Anyone else have an issue like this before?
:edit:
Just tried the reboot method from the Vonage website, but that didn't help. Also, when I plug the device into a new outlet with a different adapter (which has a 12v output rather than the 5.1v output of the adapter that came with the IP8100), the message waiting light starts blinking and the Ready light goes red, then flashes yellow several times, then goes green for a second and shuts off again (but the message waiting light continues to blink).
Hope that extra information might help. |

if LED lights wont lit have to tried to press the PAge button? will it ring the handsets? if yes, you need to call Vonage help to have a replacemetn of the power adapter. or you can purchase a new power adapter but it is best to call their tech support. they will also have to create a ticket on that coz it is a known issue for vtech phones. hope this helpp |

Thanks, I've been playing email tag with their support and that was the last thing they asked me.
Sure enough, leds aren't on, but the page thing works.
Hope they send replacements pretty quick. I'm looking for a job and can't be without a phone long! lol |

I had the exact same problem with my Vtech 8100 this week. I called Vonage Customer service, and was told that my device was no longer functioning and that I would have to purchase a new one. When I balked at purchasing a new one (i've had this about a year), they said that they would replace it at no charge. The new unit arrived today (took about 3 business days) and I am back in service now. |

Yeah, they didn't initially say they were gonna charge me for a replacement. They said that even though it was past warranty, they'd replace it this one time as a courtesy (but really, I'd probably cancel the service if they tried to charge me, so in my eyes, it wasn't so much a courtesy as a "let's keep a customer" :p)
Replacement order has been placed though. Hopefully I'm home when it arrives (i hate missing package deliveries lol) |

Hey, a friend of mine had a similar issue with a VTech not lighting up but the handset remained pageable, before asking for a replacement he tried a different power adapter and that got him working. Worth a try. |

Yeah, I tried a different adapter (and actually received a replacement adapter from Vonage today), but it didn't work. They're sending me a replacement for the base station though, so hopefully that fixes the problem....by Friday. |

hey people i had my vtech 8100 for 14 months and when i got home today from work i noticed that none of the lights were on i started to unplug my router and vtech device to try and get it back to working but no luck i even held the reset button down for a bit and also nothing here's the problem i get no lights in the front. i get a quick blink from the message light when i unplug then plug it back in. i get no light in the back of the unit were the wan cable goes into. i can press page and the head set beeps but no dial tone. i called Vonage up spoke to some dude that i couldn't even really understand i must have been on the phone asking him to repeat himself like 3 times. he had me doing the same crap that i did when i got home from work then he claims that he diagnosed the issue and it was the power adapter. hum i hope he's right. i'll keep you guy and gals updated on this check back in a couple of days. |

A similar thing happened to me. My IP8100 just stopped working one day, no lights, page didn't work, nothing. And I could hear something rattling around inside when I picked it up, so I think the cat might have had something to do with it, and one of my roommates just put it back in its place.
They sent me a replacement for free on the condition that I send back the broken one. I totally blew it by
1) Not changing my address after I moved... the new one showed up at my old apartment. Luckily my former neighbor saw my name on it and picked it up off the doorstep and held it for me.
2) Waiting too long to send back the old one. I got charged for it, and had to be without that money until I sent back the new one.
It all worked out okay, and they let me keep the handset from the original one. Now if I can just figure out how to get it assigned to the base unit... |
