I am trying to set up my RTP300 so that I can transmit syslog information to a (linux) server at home. I can't seem to find any adequate documentation on anywhere on how to do this from the RTP300. What happens is when I go into Administration> Log > Add IP address I am prompted for a username and password. This is obviously not the user/password for MY server. Is there another way I can configure this? Or is this a portion of the box that is locked down for some reason? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

I believe this is one of those pieces which is locked out. I've got every other network device on my network sending syslogd to a Linux box, but like you couldn't get the RTP300 to do so without an admin password.

I can login to the main page without a problem. It's when I try and add an IP for the logs to go to is when I get re-prompted for a username/password.
Entering admin/mypassword or admin/admin do not work.
The response I get is "Error: User not allowed to login this user level."
I can't believe they have things locked down this tight to prevent syslog traffic from being transmitted. |

Even if you get it, unless they've seriously upgraded the box, the only syslogd data you will get is startup and shutdown, and a few minor system events. I tried this 'way back when on my WRTP54G (the same as the RTP300 with a Wifi antenna) and I got so little data off it I thought it was broken. Basically, system startup, system shutdown, and major critical events only.
You may want to try the "special" login of user = "user" pw = "tivonpw", which requires that you already be logged in as a regular user account. This login allows firmware upgrades, or at least did in the 1.00.xx releases - I assume they have not changed it. |

Actually, I think they _did_ change it -- at least the last time I tried to gain access to it, the "tivonpw" password didn't work for me anymore.
Sometime when I'm a bit less busy I might try to see if I an verify this (my network is pretty complex ).

For a fellow Whovian, I suppose....
I just tried it on my WRTP54G, running the "new" 5.01.04 firmware, and "user"/"tivonpw" doesn't work for syslogd. I did see a LOT more options on what to log, though - it used to just prompt for an IP address and nothing more.
Sadly, it also doesn't appear to work for the upgrade any more, either. So I guess my self-help guide on upgrading/downgrading firmware manually is rather useless until and unless the new password is released. |

They no longer have one "standard" password, such as tivonpw. What they do now is change the password every time you hit their tftp server. It is a random string of characters and really the only way to get it(well, besides brute force it) is to be given it by Vonage in the course of troubleshooting a problem where you need to do something like manually upgrade the firmware. The only problem with that is once you get it, it may only work for a few minutes/hours before it is changed to another random password. |
