I installed everything properly (we have the VT2442) and one of the phones works fine. My second phone that is hooked up doesn't work at all, the light isn't even on. How do I fix it so that I can use both phones? |

Did you purchase one phone line or two phone lines? The second phone port light will not illuminate if it's not activated to work. |

Okay, I think just one because we just got whatever came with the 24.99 a month plan. So I can't use two phones unless I buy another line? Aww, that **** I'm so used to just being able to hook as many phones needed and no extra charges. Thanks for the info. |

You hook your other phones into the phone jacks that are in the walls, make sure you disconnect them first.
The second jack is for another phone line with its own number. |

If you have a cordless phone system, you can use as many phones as the cordless phone system can handle. You would connect the base unit of the cordless system to phone port 1 on the back of the VT2442 and then place additional handsets throughout your home. The additional handsets just need to be plugged into a power outlet.
I have a cordless sytem set up this way and can place up to 7 addidtional handsets through out my home. |

If you have two phones in the same room and don't want to mess with home wiring, just plug a simple Y-splitter into the operating Vonage phone jack and plug both phones into it. |

If you're in a relatively modern home, look for the grey box outside that the phone line comes into. Inside there will be a modular plug in a jack, simply unplug it. That takes your house off the local telco network. Then take a phone cord and plug one end into any wall jack and the other into port 1 on your Vonage device. You've just wired your entire house to Vonage! Plug your phones into any jack. |

I'd only add one step to that.
After you unplug the modular plug on the demarc (the grey box), plug a simple phone into the house wiring - one that is powered off the phone line itself, and make sure the line is completely and utterly dead (no lights light up, no clicking, and no dial tone of course). Do this BEFORE you plug the Vonage adapter into the home wiring.
Some demarcs are VERY simple, others are somewhat more complex. But plugging a Vonage adapter into an active wall jack can damage the port - so always take the extra time to test the line first. |
