Hi,
I am trying to use RT31P2 from a hotel in Germany. Hotel has DSL internet in every room. I plug RT31P2 into the internet. I use my computer from behind RT31P2. My computer is able to get to internet. But the phone light on RT31P2 is not on and I cannot use the phone. The status on RT31P2 shows "Cannot connect to login server" for the phone line.
Any suggestions? I tried calling Vonage (expensive international call from Germany) but after waiting for half an hour the support guy looked through FAQs and after not finding anything, gave me some **** about port forwarding.
Thanks! |

it might be a port issue. if the hotel is blocking certain ports, which is entirely reasonable, it could prevent your phone from working. |

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried talking to the hotel people (it was difficult since I don't speak German) and they told me that they are not blocking any ports and they don't have any firewall. What can I tell hotel people to do that will solve the problem. They are ready to help.
Thanks again! |

well, that's good, but it doesn't mean that their ISP isn't blocking these ports. That's the only thing I can think of, sorry. |

Have you considered trying the Vonage softphone. It does not need the Linksys Router, runs directly on your PC and connects to their ISP and the Internet. No guarantee that it would not be blocked too, of course. You could probably subscribe from there, over the Internet , but I believe it costs US $9.95 per month. you also need a headset with boom microphone to plug into your labtop audio jacks. |

I don't think softphone is a very good option. I pay 9.99 for 500 minutes and pay 9.99 activation charges. Instead I can use something like skype (www. skype.com) which gives me probably the same rate and no activation charges. My whole purpose of switching to Vonage was that I could make calls during my international travel. Any way, what ports Vonage is using? How can I configure those ports (make Vonage use some other ports)? |

Does anyone know how to contact Vonage support. I am so sick and tired of their service. I feel so bad about switching to Vonage. |

After waiting for hours on the phone for a Vonage support guy to pick up, I was told that I should swith to factory defaults. After that I have waited more hours on the phone but haven't been able to contact a vongae support guy. Anyone has any idea if that has ever solved a problem? |

aa2aa, is that a ham call sign?
Anyway, I have the same experience with tech support. Hours on hold waiting for a tech. I've had different problems but still just as frustrating. After having these guys swap a LinkSys for the Motorola, I still ae issues. I don't plan on going through that gosh awful wait again |
