I installed the Vonage VT2442 adopter. I have a ADLS USB modem connected to my PC which is providing the internet connection. I also have the yellow cable connected to the Ethernet prot of the VT2442 and the Ethernet port on my PC. The Ethernet light is solid green on the motorla adopter. I have the telephone hooked up to the line1 slot.
I am able to ping 192.168.15.1 from a login window on my PC; however, i get network error when I try to connect to the motorla adopter from te browser using http://192.168.15
What is causing the power light to keep flashing green?
If this is a configuation poblem how do I connect to the motorla adopter to provide the correct configuration parameters?
Do the ADLS modem have to be connected to the motorola adopter? if so, how do I connect my Speed Touch USB modem to the motorola dopter?
Any leads or assistance would be highly appreciated>
Thanks. Shak |

Yes, this is your problem. Vonage is Voip, without a connection to the internet it does not work. Unfortunately, Vonage routers do not support USB connections. Your best option would be to contact your ISP and see if they can upgrade you to a modem with a standard ethernet port. Then you connect the WAN port of the Vonage router to the ethernet port of the ADSL modem.
Alternatively, you could look into using a V-Phone or softphone if you don't mind using the phone through your computer. You can find info about both of those on their respective parts of the Vonage.com site. |

Thanks for the response. I am not sure if I understand your suggestion completely. Since the motorola adopter is networked with my PC through the Ethernet connection, isn't it able to get internet connection that way? please expain.
Also, I found a reference in the forum that if I am using a proxy to connect to the internet, which I am, then I have to disable the proxy setting in IE to get to the VT2442 adopter. This worked and I was able to logon to the adopter. However, the instructions suggest that I should enter my username and password for my ADSL service Since my computer is already connected to the internet, why is this required?
I take it that the flashing power LED (green) only indicates that the adopter has no internet connection and once internet connection is achieved the light will stay solid greed. Is this correct?
Thanks. Shak |

Just a follow-up question about the softphone and v-phone. Are there services included in my regular Vonage purchase? looking at the softphone site it looks that one has to subscribe to these services and the v-phone seems to require a USB device with the software loaded?
I would appreciate if the subscription requirements of the softphone and v-phone is clarified.
Thanks. Shak |

The softphone is going to cost you extra each month, because you have a different phone number.
I believe with the V-phone you can use your regular Vonage number, but you can only have the v-phone or your Vonage adapter as the default device not both. You can have a separate number, but again it will cost youl. I sent you a PM about this. |

hi. if i got what you said correctly, it seems that the reason your asumming that is because your pc is not only connected to the Vonage device but also to your modem directly via usb connection, is that right? if so, given that, it will still not work. your pc has to be connected only to the vonage.the Vonage device has to be connected to your modem via ethernet connection.follow the previuos post' suggestion.ask your isp to change your modem to one that has an etherent port.if not, then Vonage will not work. with regards to that blinking green power light, yes, it may mean your Vonage is not getting internet connection. given your set up, it is indeeed not gettig internet connection, coz Vonage is not connected to your modem. |

Thanks for the advise and replay. I realize that I may just have to wait to get my modem problem solved and not rely on the other services as interim solution as they are not free!!
I have contacted my ISP and they gave me the option of having an Alcatel Ethernet 510 (wired) and Ethernet 585 (Wireless) modems. Does anyone have an idea as to which one I should choose? I want the flexibility of having a wireless connection, but I am afraid that it might complicate the Vonage configuration.
Your advise and suggestions are highly appreciated.

In the mean time you could try internet connection sharing(ICS). I have used it in the past for some things with mixed results. Assuming you are using Windows XP you would go into the control panel , right click on your modem connection and choose properties. The last tab should be advanced(if I remember correctly, it has been a while) and you just need to check the share this connection box. This should theoretically allow you to do what you want in sharing the USB connection through your computers ethernet port out to the Vonage. You would then plug the WAN port on the Vonage router into the ethernet port on your computer. Assuming everything worked as it should, you should have a dialtone. I don't recommend this as a long-term solution as the USB connection is going to be inhibiting your bandwidth(not as fast as ethernet) as well as the need to keep your computer on as long as you want a dialtone. Also, Vonage doesn't support this kind of setup so if you use it, you are pretty much relegated to getting help here as Vonage will say they don't support USB connections. |
