Great!! Can you check on my softphone number transfer for me. I am trying to port out to T-Mobile. It has been a little over a week but something does not feel right. I called Vonage two days ago about the transfer and they said that a Vonage rep tried to call me, twice. However, I had not received any calls. So I called the executive rep guy I was told to call and he basically had nothing to say about my transfer, instead he wanted to talk about a problem I had with my softphone from three months ago.

So here I am waiting... waiting in the seeming endless nether world tween carriers.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to actually check the status of number transfers on these forums. My postings here have no affiliation with Vonage and should not be taken as 'official' work from and/or by the company.

However, I'm glad to help people with general questions on transfers to the best of my knowledge/ability.

That said, your particular situation is a common problem with my department. When it comes to port outs of Vonage (For example, transferring a number from Vonage to Verizon) out LNP (Local Number Portability) department is unable to give any specific details on particular transfers. Commonly we have customers contacting us looking for information on a transfer. All information and dealings must be handled through the winning carriers side (the carrier receiving the number from Vonage). Specific details on the account can be handled by the primary Vonage Customer Service line (like information on LSP Freezes, Pending Orders, etc.).

But general information is still the same when it comes to porting a number, so general inquiries on number transfers (whether in or out) can gladly be asked. Keeping in mind, specially when it comes to a port out, that most 'help' given is based on how Vonage handles port ins to it's company and some ports to other companies can be somewhat different.

Hope this helps someone.

Edit: And, I'm not insulting anyone else's department, but I'd just like to say our specific department (LNP Customer Care) has some pretty down to earth, knowledgeable people.

Andrew,
Nice of you to help out. I have a good one for you. This is long.
I have been trying to port my landline number to Vonage for over 2 years. I have been hot and heavy for the last couple of months. Vonage of course tells me they have no acess to my number or some such. I figured it was my local telephone supplier giving them the run around. They are a mom and pop operation. I called the Alabama public service commission to complain. They informed me that I could indeed port my number to Vonage, and that Vonage was on the list of providers that I could use. Great I thought. I then received a call from Otelco stating they had received a message from the Service Commission about my complaint. Otelco informed me that as much as they would hate to loose me, I could indeed port my number to Vonage. Well, I was in Heaven. I called Vonage and gave them the good news. Guess what, Yep, Vonage said they could not port my number. All I need is the form from Vonage that I need to send to Otelco. I convinced a Vonage Rep to send it to me, but He didn't do it. I am sure they have regulations to go by. So I guess I am on hold for now. Does this sound right? I know Vonage need all the customers it can get.

humm, interesting...

The first thing I'm wonder is; what kind of forum do they require? And even with that forum, what action can they take with it? The basics of beginning number transfers go like this:
- Customer calls in to begin number transfer.
- Vonage (or whatever carrier that will receive the number begins transfer.
- Customer completes NTA/LOA forum via 3PV.
- Initial request of transfer is sent to losing carrier (carrier the number is coming from)
- Carrier either response with date of transfer, or potential problem of transfer (i.e. address mismatch). In which case of the latter, problem is assisted and request is resent to carrier and if that was the only problem, carrier response with a transfer date.
- The third party then assists with removal of the number's ownership from previous carrier and 'transports' the number to the winning carrier.

So basically, the only forum(s) I can see that are required are either A) The NTA/LOA forum or B) The actual request of transfer. Now, what Vonage seems to be saying is the number can't be transfered. This could be for a number of reasons, like for example, an ICA (inter connectivity agreement between either Vonage and the third party, Vonage and the carrier, or the third party and the carrier), or the number is outside the footprint (the number's area is outside Vonage's able coverage area).

In all honesty, if a Customer Service Representative advises you that the number cannot be transfered, it can't be transfered. Despite what the carrier or any third party is telling you.

However, if you are unsure and want to be 100% sure your number cannot be ported, there's some steps that can be taken:
- Contact Vonage Customer Service and/or Technical Support and ensure it cannot be transfered. Heck, contact them more than once, just to ensure each agent understands fully what you're trying to do and they're taking the appropriate steps to ensure your number can or cannot be transfers (I mean, lets face it, sometimes an agent can make a mistake and forget to take that extra step to ensure something)
- Find out the third party involved with your number (PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT Vonage LOOKING FOR THIS INFORMATION, AGENTS ARE UNABLE TO GIVE THIS INFORMATION. PLEASE DO NOT PUT US IN A SITUATION WHERE WE HAVE TO REFUSE GIVING OUT THIS INFORMATION BASED ON PROCEDURE. No one wants customers coming to their job asking them to do things against procedure or even the law, same goes for over the phone agents) and possibly contact them asking for more information. Please note, third parties rarely deal with the average consumer and may not be able to provide you with information, once again, please do not expect anyone to violate the boundaries of their job. Trust me when I say every person you speak to on the phone will and usually wants to help you the best way we can, I mean, if everyone gets their problem resolved then less people will call in and our job will be a little less busy! But at the same time, no one wants to risk that very same job! Smile

Anyways, hope this helps. If you need anymore information or like me to clarify anything, let me know.

I am over four weeks waiting to port my number from Sunrocket and I am becoming doubtful that I will ever get my number back. What are my options if I never get the number back?
