PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:32 am    Post subject: Moto VT2142 Power blinking for longtime..... Reply with quote Back to top

Hi

Your help is greatly appreciated....

My issue:

Without Vonage adapter, by connecting DSL Modem and PC, internet is working.

Issue: First switched Modem ON(waited for 3 minutes), next switched Vonage adapter ON...waited for 10 minutes ... power light is blinking for longtime and Vonage did get configured. I followed all the sequences/steps like switching ON, Switching Off and waittime b/w connections....but in vain...

I have tried accessing http://192.168.15.1. but its coming out with " Page cannot be displayed"

My friend have configured Vonage who doesnt have a computer and it worked fine(Linksys adapter).

Is computer mandatory for the Vonage intial configuration???

Few things I have observed are:
DHCP server is disabled when i saw it in ipconfig. Tell me whether I need to make DHCP enable for the Vonage to work.?? or anyother suggestions are welcome

Here are the information

1. Your location - Chennai, India
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) - Airtel Broadband, DSL Modem
3. Upload and download speeds - Speeds upto 256 kbps
4. Modem make and model - Beetel 220BXI ADSL2+Modem
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 - Motorola VT2142
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC - Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc - Power keeps blinking for more than an hour and Vonage is not configuring.
8. Run this Voip Test: After the test has fully completed, in the Advanced Tab, click on "View Text" in the lower right hand corner. Copy-N-Paste that data into your post.

Connection Summary
------------------
Download : 261,880 bps
Upload : 179,064 bps
QOS : 69%
RTT : 274ms
Jitter : measured as 3.1 ms
packet loss : 0.0%
Vonage Voip Analysis : Given Your current internet speeds, we estimate that your internet connection can support a maximun of 2 simultaneous high quality Vonage Voip connections.

Try resetting the VT2142. Press and hold the reset button, located on the back of the device with a sharp object for 30 seconds. If the lights on the device continue to blink, the device may be defective. If so contact customer service.

Is the power light blinking an orange color?
If it is, that means you have a voicemail.

If there is a voicemail, that would not cause the power light to constantly blink. If there is a voicemail, phone port 1 or 2, dependant upon which has his voice line would be blinking.

It sounds to me like your DSL connection does not use DHCP, but instead uses a static IP address or some other method (probably including a username and password) to connect to your DSL.

This is why the Vonage router cannot connect to the DSL connection - it is not set up with the right network settings to do so.

This is also why your computer cannot connect to the Vonage router. The computer is set up with settings appropriate for your DSL connection.

First off, is there any special software you need to run on your PC to connect to the DSL connection? If so, the Vonage router may or may not be able to connect at all. You'll have to try and figure out what that software is doing (if it is presenting a username and password, and you know what those are, there is a place in the Vonage router where you can supply them, and the Vonage router can attempt the same login that your PC is doing, for example).

What I would do is the following:

1. Go to the network settings on your PC and write down all the settings.

2. Reset the PC to use DHCP ("Obtain Address Automatically"). This makes the PC compatible with your Vonage router (but no longer compatible with your DSL).

3. Log into the Vonage router and set it up with the same network settings you had on your PC. If the PC was using a static IP address, for example, set the Vonage router up to do the same. If you know of a username and password you need to present to the DSL provider, select "PPPOE" as the connection type and enter the username and password, etc - this may take some experimentation.

If that doesn't work, you can always reset the PC using the settings you wrote down and connect it back to the DSL.

(6)Click SETUP followed by WAN Configuration. From the Type drop-down list, choose PPPoE.
(7)Type the Username and Password given by Airtel DSL service.
(8)Click Connect to start your Internet connection.Keep it in mind, page got refreshed at this time.
(9)when u Click Save make sure , airtel username and password stay in the field.
