PostPosted: Mon Jul 30, 2007 9:36 am    Post subject: Cable Modem >Router > Vonage Modem > Wireless Print Reply with quote Back to top

Hello. I recently added a second home office and now I have new set up woes.

I've got a Motorola Cable Modem that connects to a 4 port Wireless Linksys Router than then connects to a Vonage modem. The phone and the fax line to the printer work great! Now I want to include a Wireless Print Server so that the printer can be used by all of the computers in the house. I can't seem to print and thought I'd ask if anyone else has done this. If so, any advice?

The print server is a Linksys Wireless-G, model WPS54GU2.

The printer is an HP L7680.

I currently have the Vonage modem connected to the print server via Cat 5 and the print server connected to the printer via USB.

Any help is appreciated.

Maybe a little more info would help.
Did you install the print server according to the directions?
Was install successful?
What is the IP address of the print server?
Does the network see the print server?

I attempted to install the print server, but the application actually searches for the printer in teh process. Because it couldn't find it, I wasn't able to get very far.

I had thought that I'd first ask if I could set it up as indicated. If the setup sounds ok, then I need to figure out how to set up the print server.

The print server is a Linksys Wireless-G, model WPS54GU2 and the ports at the back of the device are a network cable (which I assume goes to the Vonage device), a USB port, parrallel port and the power supply.

It's possible that now this is no longer a Vonage question, but before I started crossing things off the list, thought I'd make sure it's not a Vonage problem.

THANKS!

I bet the IP address of the wireless router is in a different subnet than the Vonage device, i.e. the wireless router is something like 192.168.1.X, and the Vonage device is 192.168.15.X, right? Make both of those devices have the same subnet, then disable DHCP on one of them (the Vonage one). That should allow all devices to be on the same network and communicate with the print server.

Thanks for your advice. I'd like to explore that more, but haven't ever accessed the Vonage information before. How can I determine the ip address of it and then disable DHCP on the Vonage device?

Thanks!

Dial *11 on your phone. That will give you the ip address of the router. Most likely 192.168.15.1. Type that into your web brower address, logon & password are router & router (depending on the model of your Vonage adapter).

I appreciate the response, but unfortunately *11 didn't work for me. I dialed it and got a busy signal.
