Post subject: Simul Ring Issue- Can't dial from fwd. phone to home phone
Found a bug with the simultaneous ring feature. Most of the time it works perfectly. When someone dials our number, my wife's cell phone rings exactly as it should. However, when she dials our home number from her cell, it also rings her cell phone. This wouldn't be an issue, but on Verizon's network, when you dial your own number, they assume that you want to check voice mail. So the net result is that when she dials home, she gets the voicemail for her cell. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a work around?

No ideas here, or does the poll make it seem too much like a newbie post?

the workaround would be to call the voicemail number for your area. it's not as nice as how verizon is set up, and I agree it should be the same, but for now this is the only option I can think of.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure if this would help. She's not having an issue getting into the
Vonage
VM from her cell. She's having trouble dialing home from her cell and getting routed to her cell VM.

My question is "Why would she need to call home, to speak to someone there"? If that is the case, then the person at home would answer and the short period it does ring her cell should b bareable. If she IS attempting to check voicemail, then Reebok is right, the workaround WOULD B to use the Voicemail Access Phone Number.

She's calling home to speak to someone here. The call only rings at home once simultaneously when the cell VM catches it. It's physically impossible to pick it up on time.

OK...when using Simul-Ring, obviously both phones ring at the same time. IF the cell phone is ON, both phones will ring until one of the voicemails responds. NOW, IF the cell phone is ON, the ONLY reason either of the voicemail would pick up on one (1) ring, is if they were configured to do so. The answer is to ensure both phones voicemails r configured to answer at a decent number of rings AND the the prefered voicemail (more than likely the voicemail at home) is configured to answer BEFORE the other. So, when she calls home the phone rings long enough for someone to answer. IF no one is home, the home voicemail will answer first, so she can leave a message for the person she was trying to reach at home.

There is no way to configure the number of rings on the cell phone in this particular case. When the cell system detects that the call originated from the same number, it automatically answers, bypasses the greeting and prompts for VM password. This is a carryover from the old method of checking cell VM before they implemented *86.

The only thing I can suggest then is to TOTALLY disable the cell phone voicemail. Use only the house voicemail. She will know when someone calls from the Simul-Ring & the Caller ID (assuming the cell phone has it). If it is someone she wants to talk to, she can answer it...if not, the house voicemail will pick it up, and she can answer it later from the cell by calling home, or just wait till she gets there.
