With softphone, the Network Availability feature being ON is what at least gets the call to my cell phone. If I turn that off....forwarding won't work. I think forwarding only works (at least with softphone) if you are connected to Vonage's network.

What happens to phone calls to the regular Vonage service when someone removes their box? Do calls still get forwarded? And do unanswered forwarded calls go to Vonage voicemail? Is that with or without Network Availability turned ON?

Until Vonage comes up with a way to make this work better, I came up with a way to make it work for us. Idea

The only reason I set up simulring anyway, was so my Mrs. would not have to go on-line to set up call forwarding when she needs it. (In the old POTS days, she could do this on the telephone keypad...) Confused

So, what I did was set up regular call forwarding to forward calls to her cell number AFTER it rings for 25 seconds @ the Vonage number. Normally our answering machine will pick up by then, however NOW when she leaves the house she justs hits the button that turns that answering machine off, therefore the calls get forwarded to her cell number. She gets home and turns the answering machine back on, and we are beck to normal Exclamation

When the device is removed with network availability enabled, calls go directly to that number bypassing any VM or forwarding settings.

Yes! This is exactly what I was going to post. This is an enhancement that is a must for the Simulring feature. Any number in your Simulring list should not be rung when calling from that number to your main Vonage number. I expected this to be in there by default - I guess my expectations were too high.

If my cell phone is in my Simulring list, why would I want Vonage to ring my cell phone when I call home from my cell phone!? I know I'm calling! Wink Definitely not much foresight in however made that software feature for Vonage.

I do, and I am glad to see that I am not the only one asking this!

We get spoiled with these features and sometimes expect more than we get!

I would hope that Vonage could write it into their software to have the system look at the number calling, and IF it is the number that "Simulring" is set to, then ignore the Simulring command for that call and ring the Vonage phone only.

I am no programmer, but I would think this could be done somehow. Would it involve both the Vonage server and the my RT31P2? This could make it a little more confusing!

We all understand that this is not a bug, but rather a unanticipated effect that perhaps could be addressed by the Vonage engineers!

I spent 15 minutes on the phone with a Vonage tech support guy (Very nice guy) and I could not make him understand what I was even asking about! Probably was my problem... but read through some of these replys and it becomes evident that not even everyone who has posted here understands what the thread starter was asking about!

BTW... My cell service is Cellular One.

I was just going to post this. I find it really annoying and as a new customer, I'm wondering if I am going to keep the service or not. I signed up because I wanted the ability to have my cell ring with calls to my home without having to forward it each time I leave the house, and turn it off when I get home.

I don't want to not use the Vonage voicemail system either. I don't want people to have to wait for 1 minute of ringing if I can't answer either phone.

It's bad programming and I think it needs to be fixed. Will call or email them to complain.

You know you can change the how long the phone rings before VM picks up.

Yeah, I know, but I like the phone to ring for 20-25 seconds to give plenty of time to answer it.

But it doesn't matter, because I figured out how to get it to work. The problem is that the cell phone is busy when you call from it and simulring rings it since you are on it. Instead of getting a busy signal, when you have a voicemail system, the call will be forwarded right to that. So what I did was set my phone(nokia 6230) to forward calls when my phone is busy to my Vonage number.

That solves the problem(atleast I think it does). If I call home from my cell it will ring for about 20 seconds and go to my home voicemail. Not sure if it's ringing at home or not, but I assume it is cause the call shows up on my call id log as an incomming call.
