PostPosted: Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:24 pm    Post subject: How do you port forward on VT2442? Reply with quote Back to top

I hope this is the correct place to ask my question, as I've tried to google the answer, but still can't seem to get this working. I'm trying to forward ports on this new router, but it doesn't work. Below is the process I'm trying. Can someone assist me in telling me what I'm doing wrong?

I login to the router, go to Advanced, Port Forwarding, verify the IP I want is selected, this being 192.168.15.100,
I then choose Custom Port Forwarding
screenshot:

I then enter the information needed.

Application: Remote
Protocol: TCP&UDP
Source IP Address: 192.168.15.100
Destination Address: 192.168.15.100
source Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Destination Netmaks: 255.255.255.255--default, can't seem to change it
Destionation Port Start: 4090
Port End: 4090
Port Map: 4090

Screen:

I click save, then try to verify it works, but nothing, I'm being blocked. What am I doing wrong? Thanks to anyone
that can help me.

Okay so I made a few changes, and now through my lan, I can connect to remotely anywhere, but I can't via the WAN connection
I'm still being blocked. I log in, go back to Port Forwarding, Custom Forwarding, and this is what I have:

I save it for that IP Address, 192.168.15.100, and go to IP Filters, and created 2 rules there and save to that IP:
192.168.15.100 as you see below for both TCP/UDP..

Doing that now allows me to ONLY connect internally, I get to the Remotely Anywhere login screen via my LAN, but nothing
via the WAN connection. I still don't know what I'm doing wrong, lol..

To setup port forwarding on this router, your computer has to be set to a static ip address. Have you set the computer to a static ip address? On your computer, go to start/run and type in "cmd" without the quotes, then hit enter. At the command prompt window type in, "ipconfig/all" without the quotes then hit enter. You're looking for your ip address - it should be 192.168.15.2

Hi, thanks for the reply. My computers are set with static ip's. The one in question being 192.168.15.100. Lan connectivity is fine, I can connect to all my networked machines, all with static ip's set, problem is setting up port fowarding and making a successful connection to the computer where I have Remotely Anywhere.

Where it says "Do not skip this step!" enter 192.168.15.2 . All the fields below will then be entered in for you.

I tried that as well, the RT31P2 worked, was able to port foward everything, so technically, nothing has changed but the router, same settings on my lan machines, but something on this router is blocking me, even the DMZ won't work. Does anyone have this router and port foward working? if so, can you put up screen shot of how your settings are setup, are they like mine, minus we may have different lan IP's, as I'm using 192.168.15.100 through 110..

I am not home so I can't post a picture but port forwarding works fine on a VT2442. I use it for a different application and have no problems whatsoever.

After 2 weeks of trying, gave up finally, the router ****.. Voip works with no issues, but it will not port forward anything. Vonage level 3 support said many people have issues, verified I did everything correctly, which I had, but nothing worked, asked me to try Motorola, see if they would help. Ended up with Level 4 at Motorola, and she said screw it, your router ****, lol, her words. She said 1 out of 3 have forwarding issues, due to the firewall, but that firmware can't fix it since Vonage doesn't allow changes to their firmware, unless you talk to higher up's and they allow a change to my device. Eventually I got tired of so much bs, and just slapped a dlink in front of everything, routed gateway and ip to the new device. Lose QoS but screw it, was tired of dealing with hardware that doesn't work. Thanks anyway, good luck to others with these issues...
