Post subject: New Install, trying to use a small PBX
I recently ordered a couple of lines to test on my patch panel for my business and received the boxes during this past week. This weekend I have been trying to set them up and have had little success. It seems that when I attach the line to the device it does not quite work as it should. Anytime I pick up a phone and choose a line that is attached to the
Vonage
device I tend to get a fast busy signal. But if I disconnect the phone wire from the
Vonage
box and plug it back it, then quickly pick up the phone on that line it seems to have a dial tone and I can call out on the line. Then after I hang up the phone and try again the line is either still connected or has a fast busy again. Has anyone ever run accross something like this before, anyone able to offer a little help. I really don't feel like waiting on hold for customer support to answer.

Post subject: PBX
I administer an AVAYA PBX on my company site. A fast busy in telephone terms is called a wave off. Your problem may be in your PBX security settings. It gets very complicated but here some general info. You may have a COR (class of restriction) setting that needs to allow calls offsite. You may have ARS (automatic route selection) that routes your outgoing calls according to a predifined route pattern. The new lines would have to be punched down where your old copper trunks were. Were your old trunks set up as ground start or loop start? My suggestion is to gat a phone working using the adapter and once it works your problems lie with the PBX.
