I just got a PAP2 yesterday and when I hooked it up the phone has really short rings. Everything works fine with the voice quality and I can make and receive calls, but when the phone rings the rings are like 1/4 second long instead of the normal ring. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks, |

I haven't heard of this before with the PAP2, but I used to experience it with the RTP300 before Vonage made a few firmware updates. Interestingly enough, a thread was started in here recently describing Caller ID issues with the PAP2 that also sounded similar to the issues we went through with the RTP300.
In any case, a call to customer service to see if any adjustment can be made may be in order. However, before you do that, if you're using house wiring, unplug from the house wiring and see if that makes any difference. |

I unpluged the Vonage box from the house and just plugged 1 phone into it. Then I called the house and it did a normal ring (1-2 long ringer) Then I plugged it back into the house and called again. Now it did the very short ring. The caller ID still works it's just a short ring. I can live with it I was just wondering where the problem is. Is it the ring generator in the PAP2? or the ring voltage not high enough to ring all the phones in the house?
Thanks for the responce. |

Good questions. The way to find out is to unplug all the phones, then just plug in the one you used without the house wiring. If that gives a short ring, then you've got an issue with the house wiring. You did disconnect from outside land lines didn't you? That's very important! If you haven't done that, don't plug the Vonage box into the house wiring until you have.
If that's good, start plugging phones back in until it gets bad again. The PAP2s are supposed to be able to handle quite a bit- 6 ringer equivalents, I think- but some old phones are very heavy loads. |

Yes I did unplug from the outside world at the phone box outside. I have the PAP2 in our computer room with a splitter plugged into the wall and another phone, then 2 cordless phone headunits and then 2 regular caller ID phones. That would be 5 phones in all. I'll try unplugging everything and try 1 phone at a time until the ringer goes short. Thanks for the help. |
