Well thought I would introduce myself, not sure if this is exactly where to put this but I do have a couple questions I have been unable to find answers too.

Firstly I am in Ontario Canada, with Rogers Extreme cable internet. I have a cable modem to a WRT54GP2 (serial starts at CGZ) with firmware 1.30.01 (yeah from 05!) I ran the speed test and came up with these results.

Speed test statistics

I have run the test a couple times and it stays about the same, though QoS tends to dip at times.

Questions are:
1.a) Why is it that there are a couple (so far) numbers that when I try to call I cannot connect too? (home phone lines)
b) The odd time I will call a number and the connection will be shaky and echo. This is only for certain numbers and is always the same quality (or lack there of) every time I call said number.
2. Why hasn't my router updated firmware? Thought it was to be automatic? I did turn off the wireless (since I do not use it) but no change. Also since my serial starts with the CGZ I cannot use tomato firmware, so wondering what I can do? What is the advantage of having the updated firmware? Does it actually improve service/quality?

Overall my service has been OK. Other than issues stated above there is only the odd time that the phone gets weak and feels like I am back out at my grandparents farm making a long distance call.

I have the same Vonage adapter that you do. This is a good adapter, I haven't had too many problems with it. Vonage controls the firmware, and I guess they feel there is no need to update it.

What kind of message are you getting when you try to call certain numbers?

I find when I call Newfoundland the ring tone is really weird and sometimes call quality isn't the best, but not related to adapter, because I have 2 different ones.

I am curious on why you purchased this adapter if you aren't using the wireless function, you could have purchased a less expensive one.

I have used the tomato firmware on my Motorola adapter and never really noticed a difference.

As for the reason why I bought the router, is that it was virtually free. Future Shop had it on sale and than Vonage had the $100 rebate on it as well. I figured why pass up on a good deal. Didn't want to have a Vonage adapter and than have a separate router cluttering up my desk further. As for the wireless, well its a bonus. I thought one day it might be handy to have the option there than have to go out later and buy another one.

Myself, I have only experienced the one number that has the very low quality. Most people I call there is no problem other than the occasional dip in quality. My gf's best friends house is the only number that has had a problem connecting to at all. The gf reports half the time it just stops trying to connect and the other half she gets a noise over the line like you would if you were sending a fax. She also says that she has to try 2 or 3 times for it to finally connect.

I got mine pretty cheap also, was regular $140, I think I got it around $60 and no rebate hassles.

I am not sure why you having problems with that one number, I know if I am doing some heavy downloading (torrents) the call quality sometimes drops off.

I am not a big telephone user but often experience problems when calling one specific number. Although I am not a technician I have been around the block using Vonage for over one year and have received technical help from my internet provider "Shaw", router provider "linksys" and Vonage tech'.s in trying to resolve the problem. My equipment is all higher end and my upload and download speeds are excellent.

The problem being: ..when I call that specific number the call will not connect, or if it does connect it cuts off after one or two rings, or if it stays connected the voice is garbled. (Not always but quite often).

My assumption ...the problem is with the telephone company that is providing service to the number I am calling. As that number is the only one that I call that is serviced by Primus I cannot be sure??

Don't know if that is technically possible?? Any suggestions?
