I am a new subscriber ( 10/2 . I am awaiting my old # to xfer from Roadrunner. I have had a couple of issues early on (message waiting signal and voicemail) both have been resolved. It seems there are nothing but problems reported on this forum, and maybe that's the way it should be, i don't know. I just wonder if anybody has had a smooth sail, # xfer on time, etc. |

PIT:
I have been a subscriber since May, and like anything in my life new/different I had problems until I understood the technology. (heck my kids are teenagers and I still dont understand them)
Luckily my problems were corrected by Vonange and my ISP (with lot of coercing) but it was help from these forums that allowed me to steer the technicians in the right direction.... my problem was packet loss (ISP) and one side of calls kept dropping (bad Motorola ATA).
I have since added 2 lines (total of three) since my LNP and will never look back at Verizon.
Not many people "fly the Vonage banner" and are closeted when it comes to this alternate lifestyle (heh heh) because they dont want to sound "like one of those weirdos"
Even my wife still tells friends we have one of those "strange telephone companies that my husband set up" but doesnt waste a breath to tell me that "since Vonage is saving us over $100 a month I can buy her the (fill in the blank)" |

I just hooked it up on Wednesday...so I have only had it a brief time...but thus far I am very happy..... I got it hooked up in minutes..the quality of sound is awesome..better than my regular phone line...... I hope it remains as good.......... I downgraded my land line..... and hopefully this will continue to test out well...and I will transfer my number....... Alicia |

I have also opted for the "alternate lifestyle" with my browser (Mozilla Firefox) and email client (Thunderbird). I enjoy the option of getting my hands a little dirty and playing with extensions, etc to modify things to my liking. All that aside from the security issues with IE. That being said you find yourself reading a lot of user froums and trying to figure out things. That is not all bad though, I WANT to have a little control and knowledge of my system. Voip is another whole bag of worms. But I'm willing to learn and take a chance rather then get sucked dry by my local Ma Bell. |

I have been using Vonage for about 2 months now and it works great. Since people only visit this site that are having problems, you see many more problems.
Actually just now my wife was talking on the phone, I was surfing and downloading a file all at the same time with no problems.
I love it! |

My voicemail hasn't worked properly in the month that I've had service, which has been a detriment to my business and made me wonder why I switched in the first place. Tech support doesn't have many answers, if they get back to you at all. Other than that, the service seems to work fine most of the time.
Issue of the day: Voicemail says the mailbox is in use whenever I try to check my messages, and of course the site is down so I can't check there either. |

The VM system believes you have not hung up since your last call to check. I can suggest (with no guarante) two ideas: (1) Re-cycle your Vonage box. Unplug the AC, wait about 30 seconds and reconnect; (2) Dial your Vonage # and leave a message. Before you hang-up, press the #(pound) sign button. |

i've been on Vonage for about 3 weeks now and absoloutely love it. i found myself telling strangers in the grocery store and local about it every chance i get. i picked up the Lynksys phone adapter from circuit city and had everything hooked up within 5 minutes of getting home. i already had a wireless G router, so everything made since the first time. i'm able to make calls while downloading LARGE files without seeing any noticeable loss in download speeds and no loss in call quality. if i was able to shut up about Vonage, no one would even know i was using anything different! i can't really think about anything to complain about the service either. i turned the voicemail off since it's built into my cordless phone base. prior to getting Vonage, we had to put a block on our long distance service since we have 2 sisters living with us. now with Vonage, they can call whoever they like and talk as long as they like for 24.99 a month. i think that says it all! |

After reading some of the horror stories posted on this site I guess I've been extremely lucky. no major proplems except the time the box died but Vonage replaced it promptly.
Voice mail problem is annoying but not enough to make me switch. I've never had to wait mor than 3 - 5 minutes for tech support and the problem was fixed quickly. |

I had a few start-up configuration questions as I already have a wireless router and wanted to integrate it with the Vonage Linksys router properly. I like new technologies, and am willing to learn new skills, and I see this as a positive, not a negative. The Vonage service has already saved me significant $$$ and I love to see my old Bell long distance bills going down. Service across Canada, to the US and to the UK have been mostly excellent, and definitely as good as or better than my mobile service. I believe that Voip will only get better from here so am going to stick with it for now. Definitely a good move for me, and I have had no problems with the equipment so far. |
