I call France three times a day speaking anywhere from one hour and a few minutes to two hours. That's a French landline so it's free. They cut me off at the hour mark; I just have to call right back. Nothing has ever happened past that.

my question is how long have you been doing this and are you on a residential plan or a business plan. i wouldn't be surprised if after a few months you're "flagged" and havng to deal with the Vonage usage department.

Agreed, which is why I said that under 3 hours per day is not abuse in my mind.

Same here. I recommended Vonage to a lot of people in 2004 & 2005. In 2006 things deteriorated, and in 2007 I'm planning an exit.

Do I stay because they are the largest and perhaps most stable or do I go to someplace less stable without false advertising and good cust service?

I signed up with a competitor to try out their service, which is reportedly outstanding. So far I am extremely impressed with their customer service-- English speaking, polite, empowered to get things done, and almost zero wait time. So I would not in any way consider Vonage the "largest" when you consider that even though Ma Bell may not have the number of Voip lines in service that Vonage does, they are certainly a much larger entity.

Its almost as if Vonage doesn't like it when somebody figures out how to take full advantage of their services. Virtual number in another country, call forwarding, simulring, free international calls. Obviously these things cost Vonage money to provide and I'm sure they can count on making their money back with %95 of the subscribers, but if somebody uses them to full advantage and Vonage is losing money, this is how they treat a customer? I've come to a real change of heart about Vonage in the last couple months. well the saga has come to an end... without argument or hours on the phone, Vonage has closed my account. it does look like i'll have to fight with them on my final bill, though. i have decided to use a Voip service that is... a much warmer climate with over 9 million subscribers. just started using them yesterday and so far, voice quality is decent. and if i decide to quit and go with a different company, they're not going to try to charge me with a $40 cancellation fee. so... that i love.

edit: hey... if they completely delete my ability to log in and pay on this account, does that mean i don't have to pay?

you know... i'd love to write a news article about how Vonage is not friendly to long distance romance. i read another person's complaint that is similar to mine on vonage's own forums where they changed her plan from a residential to a business plan because of excessive usage. she's a canadian resident and calling a single american landline (her boyfriend) and they apparently went over the 5000 minute mark. i wonder how many other people that are trying to use their service are in long distance relationships and have had to deal with this stuff...

Does anyone know what is the limit on the "unlimited" small businesses plan? If it's 5000 for residential then maybe it's more for small biz. I would hope so. Anyone have any experience or info on this?

Thanks!

Nope.... no info, but I have discovered that other carriers cap their small biz lines the same as residential, at 5000 minutes. Don't know if Vonage does the same or not.
