Recently I noticed that I hear clicking while on an active call. This noise does not appear to happen when a call is not in progress. Meaning if I take the phone off the hook and wait until the dial-tone stops, I do not hear the clicking I hear while speaking with someone. The clicking does not follow any kind of pattern. It appears to be mostly random. It is a similar sound as you would hear if another line was picked up and then hung up.

Here are the results of the Vonage Speed test:

Download 6,252,784 bps
Upload 482,392 bps
QOS 98%
RTT 38 ms
MaxPause 16 ms

Voip Router - Motorola VT2142

I have tried several different handsets but the result is the same. There are only 2 phones connected to the line.

I have powered down my cable modem and the Vonage router and reboot both. Same result.

Try adjusting your bandwidth saver to a different setting and see if the problem goes away. I have a different adapter but from day one to now, a year later, I have had the same sound that you're describing. The strange thing is though, I only hear the sound when I use the 50kbps setting. I have never heard it while using the 30 or 90kbps setting. But with the 50 setting the sound is there on every phone call. It is a soft clicking noise at random. Not terribly bad, but annoying for sure.

Funny you would say that (about 50k) causing the problem. I actually tested 50k and notice the problem got worse, so I never tried the 30 think that would be even worse.

I will try 30 and reply back for everyone's benefit.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I recently - 3 weeks ago, had a different problem. Customer service sent me 2 different 2142s to solve it and I've got the clicking as well as the system just turning itself off... Ask people you're speaking to, because on their end, the clicking chops words out of my dialog and they can't understand me. People ask if I could call back once I'm in better range thinking I'm on a cell phone. Defintely can't hold a clear line long enough to send a fax!

I've found that going into tools and picking the default factory settings buys me about 15 minutes of clarity, but like I said, both lines then go dead. By the way, resetting the default settings hasn't helped to successfully send a fax.

I dread the cell phone bill this month, every call is transferring over... I hope.

Setting to 30kbps seems to be better but still not perfect. I am assuming with more than just me reporting a similar issue that this must be Vonage issue.

Anyone know if there are firmware updates available for the Motorola 2142 and if so, how would I obtain and install it?
