Hello,

I want to switch to Vonage but I have a few question about wiring it.

I have read that you can plug your adaptor into a phone jack allowing all phones to use Vonage but you have to have your phone circuit cut off from the outside. Since I have DSL that is not possible. Will this still work?

Lastly I have a old alarm system. Will it still work with Vonage?

Will all my phones still need DSL filters?

Thank you,
Robert

Maybe. Most houses are wired with more than 1 pair going to each jack. If yours has at least two pairs (typical), you can use one for the DSL and 1 to distribute Vonage through the house. Depending on the specifics of your wiring, you may need to do a bit of work to get it set up. Typically, you would want to move the DSL so that it isn't the main line (Line 1), and use line 1 for Vonage.

Maybe again. Some alarm systems work well with Vonage and some don't. Frequently it's difficult to figure out why one will work and another won't. My own alarm is very old and works fine with Vonage.

This will definitely take some work to get set up properly. If you continue to have regular phone service on the DSL line, it might be most expedient to just leave the alarm setup unchanged, with the DSL line servicing the alarm. In that case, you might want to consider leaving the DSL on line 1 and putting Vonage on line 2 throughout the house, instead of what I indicated above.

No.
