Post subject: Does Motorola VT2542 reset settings when powered off?
Hi,
I've spent a lot of time setting up port forwarding and trying to reserve an IP for a specific MAC address. Everything seemed to be fine until I started having problems with my Internet connection.
I unplugged and replugged everything (Modem, Router, etc) and everything works fine again, however ALL MY SETTING seem to have disappeared!
So, Does the Motorola VT2542 reset to factory defaults when unplugged? And is there any way to avoid that?
Thanks.

I have not experienced any resetting to factory defaults from a power failure or through manually disconnecting the power from my cable modem or the VT2542 itself. When the power resumes, the security settings and any other settings I've setup for the VT2542 are still intact.
In your instance, does it only happen when you lose internet connectivity due to your isp, or also when you manually disconnect the power from your VT2542? It seems alot of users are having this issue (loss of settings) when power connectivity is lost to the VT2542.
I've never heard of router settings being lost due to problems with your internet connection...Have you contacted
Vonage
about this?

I know, I thought it was strange too. My 2 old Linksys which I don't use anymore, never did that.
It only happens when I unplug it. I've turned the power off to the VT2542 about 3 or 4 times in the last month, and I've lost my settings everytime.
Thankfully it doesn't happen when I lose my internet connection because of my ISP. That would be everyday!!

Just to update to my previous post, I am now experiencing the loss of all settings with the rebooting of the VT2542. This was not previously the case when I would reboot the device. I don't know now why this is happening, but it is.
Did
Vonage
suggest to you to do a hard reset ( hold the reset button on the device for a minute) and then login to the device using the factory default "router" for the username and password, reapply your security settings and any other settings you had then reboot the device to see if your settings are still intact?

I too have and continue to lose settings when the router is unplugged.
I suggest everyone complain to
Vonage
. Insist on a case number and follow up every three days.
My case number has been open since the 17 of July 07.
P.S. It didn't do any good to replace the router (vt2542) they just send another defective one and I had to pay the 10 bucks to return the first defective router.
Crappy equipment/techsupport cannot be fixed here but at least you know you are not alone.

I'm having the same problem with my VT2542
Just currious, do you guys use the default lan IP ?
I'm wondering if that is what's causing it to crash, and reset to defaults?
I notice that pulling up the lan info page, it takes several seconds (like 20), for the info to populate, and I suspect this is where the issue is.

By default do you mean 192.168.15.1 for the gateway? Yes I use the default. I have 10 ip addresses assigned including three wireless laptops. My lan configuration page comes up almost instantly.

Post subject: Yeah me too...
I have had my device reset to 100% factory settings twice now. It happens to me when I make a change to the router and (I) manually tell it to restart. Just pulling the power doesn't make it happen. Yesterday I wanted to turn the DHCP server off on the device so I could use another device on the network to provide more flexible DHCP services. I simply turned the DHCP server off. I wanted to restart the router to make sure the setting stuck. I couldn't connect to the device and ended up having to go back to the default IP and user name to get back into it.
So yes, they must have some kind of bug. I have opened a ticket with
Vonage
and pointed them to this thread to show it's more than just me. I would bet there is some firmware issue they need to fix.
