My Vonage adapter is a Motorola VT1005, and my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A-205-S4577. The instructions say to power up the modem before powering up the adapter before powering up the computer. Anyway, because my modem is built in, I connected everything and then powered up the computer. Didn't seem to work.
Be easy on me...remember I'm a computer idiot. Please dumb your response down to the 2nd grade level for me. Thanks! |

They don't mean the dial-up modem in the computer - they mean you cable or DSL broadband modem.
Do you have a cable modem or a DSL modem? Some kind of high-speed internet connected is needed for Vonage. |

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what I'm doing. The cable comes out of the wall and plugs into my computer and I have high-speed cable internet access. There is no other box or modem that is visible that I can plug into. I took the cable out of the computer and plugged into the "Wan" port on the Motorola adapter, and then plugged the computer to the Motorola's PC port. I must be missing something. Any suggestions? We're in a foreign country and communication is sometimes difficult. Thanks! |

When you connect the cable to your PC, what port does it connect to?
Is it a port with an picture that looks like a telephone, or one with a picture that's like a horziontal line with a little box above it and two boxes below it? |

It connects directly from the wall outlet to the port with the horizontal line, box above, 2 boxes below (Ethernet port?)
(In reply to the other post: I looked for the "sticky message," but I couldn't find one))
Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks. |

The "sticky" message is here: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7191.html
It has instructions about what info you should gather and post here so others have enough info to help you.
When you run the Voip test it's OK at this point to have the cable connected directly to your computer (e.g., to have the Vonage box not connected).
It looks like you have an ethernet connection (I was a friad that all you have is dialup). Do you know who provides your Internet access? Do you have to run any program on your PC to turn the connection on when you use the Internet? |
