Note this was fixed by Vonage support:

Please note they did a push of updated firmware when this problem started happening -- After getting in touch with another Tier 2 rep -- They "Backdated" the firm ware to get rid of the new push -- when they did this, I have the version now:

11.4.1-r061026-1.3.0 -r5 (Software)

Installed in the router and this fixed the problem.

Also note:

The tier 2 rep told me Vonage is FULLY aware of this issue and that it's been fixed in the new patch which is set to deploy sometime in the next few weeks they told me.

Unfortunately not all reps are on the ball, but this one was.. Especially after I gave him the URL for this forum.

Glad it's working now Smile

Hi upset2542,

I love your username. I have been through it all. Two vt2542's and backdated firmware.

Be sure to check the router losing its settings in a day or two after the firmware downgrade. It initally worked for me.

I have always use an ups but I must have a busy lan as my router locks up and needs rebooting-- it seems to last longer if I don't make any changes and just use the defaults. This is not an option.

My complaint has escalated to level 3 tech support and a case number has been issued. No action since the 17 of July 07.

I will report back on final disposition.

Is it possible after you backdated the firmware, that Vonage pushed out a new version without you knowing about it?

No the old version was still not working so the latest tech upgraded it again.

I was also told today that Vonage is aware of this issue with the VT2542 and that a new firmware update would be released within the next two weeks. I'm currently on software version 11.4.1-r070201-1.3.2 -r1. This must have been a recent firmware update because initially, I was not having this issue with losing all of my settings after a reboot or loss of power. I don't know the firmware version I had when I first received the device in mid-May, but it retained the settings after a reboot or loss of power.

I have set up tomorrow as the deadline in my mind. The router goes back then.

Joeslick, you can try contacting tech support and have them flash the firmware back to 11.4.1-r061026-1.3.0 -r5 until they release the "new" firmware update that corrects the issue.

PostPosted: Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:33 am    Post subject: Motorola VT2542 software issues and wireless range question Reply with quote Back to top

 Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying the Motorola VT2542, but I am worried about the software issues. It seems that the loss of settings on reboot/power up is an extremely frustrating problem BUT it is being addressed with a software fix. If that is the case, and they fix this problem (my heart goes out to you who have struggled with this Cry ), I'd still consider buying the product. So, I'd like to know if the problem has yet been properly and reliably fixed.

My second question is related to the wireless range of the vt2524. I read that it was not a very good range ... less than most. What has been the experience of people here on this forum? Do you notice a less-than-normal range? Even if the range is fairly normal, is the signal weaker than expected?

I appreciate your help.

Sincerely,
Karen

As of this post, there is yet to be a firmware update that addresses this issue. Once you have saved your settings on the device, you can export your current configuration file and save it to your computer. If you experience any loss of power or have to reboot the device and the settings were lost, import the configuration file back on to the device. I know this isn't the most ideal thing to have to repeatedly do, but it's a lot more convenient to restore the configuration file than having to restore each individual setting.

As for the wireless range of the VT2542, I have no complaints. I receive good reception through out my residence. Knowing what I know now about the Motorola VT2542, I would still purchase the device...Call quality is excellent! and the router works fine for my needs. But, it would be nice if they addressed sooner than later, the loss of settings due to a loss of power or having to reboot the device.

Maybe I am doing this wrong, but I have having the same problem with my settings being lost during a reboot. So I did save the config and tried to reload it, but when I reload the config it reboots my router which is back to default. Is there a different way to load you saved config.

Dear Darrell_G,

Thanks for the response. It helps. I went to the Motorola website, and I was unable to find the "Motorola VT2542" on its own website! I did find the VT2500 series, but no VT2542 within that series. The VT2500 seems to do the same work as the VT2542, so I'm confused about the situation. Do you know where I can purchase the VT2542, or is the VT2500 the same thing? If yes, does anyone know whether it has the same problems/benefits as the VT2542?

Thank you,
Karen

You can purchase the VT2542 from Vonage. http://vonage.com/device.php?type=VT2542&refer_id=WEBPR0706010001W1

I've seen the VT2500 mentioned in another post, but I don't think it's an approved Vonage adapter as of yet or if it will ever be.
