I went to the Vonage website, but that purchase is only for people who do not have an existing account. There is no place on the Vonage website to purchase the product unless you are a new customer. I tried Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City, Sam's Club, and more, but NONE of them sells the product. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate it. Karen |

I don't have a clue as to why Vonage would require you to open a new account before they would allow you to purchase the Motorola VT2542...it makes no sense to me whatsoever and I've heard other members complaining of this. I would suggest to you to be persistent when calling Vonage about the purchase of the VT2542. Try telling them that the device that you currently have is starting to have issues...it's not just a want but a need for a new device. |

In fact, the device I have IS presenting a problem, and that is the reason I'm buying a new one. I have had a Linksys RT31P2 for the last 2 years, and it had given me no trouble until just two weeks ago when it started to throw sparks when I unplug/plug it (to reboot them when the stop "talking" to each other). I have a modum --> TR31P2 --> Linksys WRT54G setup to network my Vonage and all my home computers (7 total). I'm just praying the TR31P2 will hold out until I can replace it. I want to upgrade to one device resolve the problem of the two Linksys devices connectivity. Less clutter will also be most welcomed.
I'll pressure Vonage and then let the forum know how it goes.
Thanks, Karen |

The rep I just spoke to did not previously know of this issue. After I explained to her that I just wanted a plain vanilla router without wireless, she told me that I could simply turn the wireless funcitionality off!!!!
Then I explained to her that when the device power cycled, the wireless would be enabled by default, leaving me with my pants down.
She just hung up and promised to call me back. All I want is a plain vanilla one.

Just read this post thread. Here's my post in the bug section.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just got off the phone with Vonage. 4 hours total time on the phone with them. Had to do the typical troubleshooting with tier 1 and 2 tech support and worked my way up to ATS (advanced technical support). Problem was when I setup my static IP address when it reboots it looses the static config and goes back to factory defaults. Even does it with the wireless AP settings. If you set up a new SSID when rebooted it goes back to factory configs.
Turns out they have officially advised me that the Motorola VT2542 does have a firmware bug.
Feel free to reference my case number of #14728452 if you have a Motorola VT2542 that's doing the same thing.
They say they are working with Motorola on getting this issue fixed. I'm supposed to call back in two weeks to see if they have a fix.
I find it hard to believe Motorola would produce a router that resets itself to factory configs when you power it off and on.
Hope this post helps others.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forgot to add to my post my Motorola VT2542 is :
Software Versions Gateway 11.4.1-r061026-1.3.0 -r5 Wireless Firmware 3.0.0.12 Wireless APDK 6.0.2.64 Boot Loader 1.3.8.1602 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After reading this thread..I see Vonage isn't going anywhere quick with the fix. They told me to check back in two weeks, but I see posts going back to July in this thread. Wonder why they admit havoing a firmware or bug issue yet still continue to distribute the Motorola VT2542 as their main device still. Doesn't add up. I'm going to call back and ask them to ship another device to my and try that one more time. If that doesn't work I'm canceling with them and going cell ! Thanks for all who posted ! It did hellp me ! |
