PostPosted: Wed Jul 11, 2007 12:20 am    Post subject: How to Set up Linksys WRTP54G with SIFY connection in India? Reply with quote Back to top

I have purchased a LINKSYS WRTP54G router to set-up Vonage connection in India to speak with my wife. She has a SIFY broadband connection.

She did following things:
1. Connect router to the power supply
2. Connect SIFY internet line to the router
3. Connect computer to the router

Now, when she tries to access internet, it does not work. Can anyone help me on setting up the router with SIFY connection? She tried putting, 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer to change rounter settings, but it didn't work. The page can not be displayed, error comes.

When she used a c:> ipconfig/all command, it gave following info:
IP address: 10.35.212.47
Defauld gateway: 10.35.212.1
DNS server: 202.144.50.4

Can anyone suggest how to proceed further with the router and Vonage setup ?

I greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

Vijay

Dear Vinay,

I believe these should solve your issue:

Please do the following steps:

1. Change the IP address to: 192.168.1.xxx (xxx=any available no. from 0 to 255, except 1)

2. Type 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer to change rounter settings.

3. Once done, change the IP address back to the original settings i.e.
10.35.212.47

Please note, that for your PC to be able to access the router, the IP class should be same for both.

Therefore, the IP address for the router should also be of the following manner:10.35.212.xxx

These are my views, am no professional troubleshooter Smile

Let me know if it works.

Dear Sawan,

It's very kind of you to post a reply to my question. I will try to follow the steps you have outlined. Can you please elaborate on STEP 1 - how to change the IP address to
192.168.1.xxx (xxx=any available no. from 0 to 255, except 1)

Kind regards,
Vijay

Use the IP address: 192.168.1.200

To change it to the above address:
Right Click on Network Neighbourhood>Properties>TCP/IP>Properties.

Insert the above address.

Dear Sawan,
As per your directions, we changed the IP address of the PC to 192.168.1.200 by going into the
Network Neighbourhood>Properties>TCP/IP>Properties

After that, when we type 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer to change rounter settings, the error comes saying ' the page can not be displayed'.

I am helpless at this point and don't know what to do next. Is there any thing you can think of that will help us change the router settings so that internet is accessible through the router?

All your help so far is much appreciated,

Best Regards,
Vijay

The IP address of the Vonage linksys is probably not 192.168.1.1 You can try either 192.168.1.15 OR you can find out by going to the PC and typing "ipconfig /all" and look for the address of the default gateway. That IP will be the IP of the Linksys.

Two items.

1. The IP address of the WRTP54G is 192.168.15.1 not 192.168.1.1 as you suggested at the beginning.

2. If you want to change the configuration of your Vonage device here is what I would do.

a) Plug in the power supply for the wrtp54G and turn it on.
b) Isolate the wrtp54G and your computer from the network.
c) connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the wrtp54G port 1.
**Very important**
Make sure that your connection is as follows: Computer -> WRTP54G only. Make sure it is not connected at all to the SIFY modem.

Now turn on your computer and open up IE and type in 192.168.15.1 and you should be able to gain access to the web configuration.

it is important to note that you will need to input in all the username and password information into the WRTP54G since it's a DSL connection.
