My router seems to be running a bootup routine or something repeatedly. When I power it up, the lights come on, blink, stay lit, and then start routine over in a few seconds. I think the firmware is corrupted, but the router will not access the internet (messes up the cable modem) and I cannot access it with the computer web utility as it reports it being disconnected every few seconds. The router is two years old, so no warranty and I do not wish to spend the money on a new one that is just for phone service purposes. Am I out of luck or does anyone have any suggestions?

you can try a factory reset (press and hold the reset button for at least 30 seconds with the power on), but it may be a goner. Call Vonage - you MAY find someone willing to at least ship you a refurbed PAP2.

Thanks NateHoy for the suggestion. I forgot to mention that I tried the reset button with no luck. The router keeps cycling even with the button pushed. I figured it was a goner! I guess I might look into some other Voip services.

Call Vonage - you MAY find someone willing to at least ship you a refurbed PAP2, or some other working device.

If you don't have a phone line you can use, try a Gizmo line - they are free and Gizmo added on a toll-free gateway meaning you can make outbound toll-free calls free of charge. It's on your computer, of course, so you'll need a microphone and preferably a headset to cut down on echo, but it's a good way to save on those cell minutes when calling Vonage....

Today when I called Vonage, I guess I got the right person. She is sending me a new Motorola VT2542. Just have to send mine to them. Do not know much about this new router, but it makes me happy that they are taking care of the matter. Funny how getting the right person makes all the difference! Thanks again NateHoy!

the only thing that might also be causing your issue is the power supply. if you recently moved or moved the device while troubleshooting and plugged in the wrong power supply it could be getting the incorrect Voltage and that would cause the issue that you are having. one other thing is a jolt from a storm or power outage.
