My setup is Cable Modem -> Linksys Router -> Vonage Adapter
-> Computer
My computer is plugged into the Router, too (not through the Vonage adapter). The router is wireless too so my laptop has internet capabilities.

I have had no problems and call quality is excellent. Make sure your cable modem is up to date. I had to update cable modems as mine was too old and not compatible with Vonage. (I new that before getting Vonage.)

You want to put the modem between the computer and the router?? No, you can't do that. However, you can do Modem->router and then plug both the computer and a Vonage device into the router, if that's what you meant.

Why don't you give us full details on your current setup- all the things listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum? That way we'll be able to help you more. When you say that your answering machine keeps "going off", what exactly do you mean?

okay
i have a netgear router..my desktop computer is plugged in the first one and my Vonage reciever device on the second one. my friend was complaining that the bell never rang on the phone and the answering machine went off straight away with out any bells.
and my desktop connection is pretty slow for some reason.
Vonage makes my internet slower, i d/c my Vonage stuff and just did a basic router on desktop wired and wireless laptop and it worked fast.

If you post the solution (the steps you took to solve the problem), that may help the next person with the same problem.

sure thing.
connect the modem to the blue port in your vtech Vonage reciever and the internet port from router to the yellow port on reciever. and plug your computer into any of the ports on the router.
this way the bandwith is balanced out and isn't taken massively from reciever.

instructions bit unclear..im a noob sorry Sad best i can explain it as.
not much of a teacher
