I am leaving vonage on September 2007, because of unfairness to some callers. I normally call Switzerland & Holland and these two countries are not included in the free International destinations £7.99 package.
I will only stay if they include the above two countries in the free list.
Vonage .. Good bye..

unfairness to some callers? if vonage could include all european countries on the world plans just to be "fair" for all the customers, then there isnt going to be any business left for vonage. leave if you think the plan is not working out for you, and find better deal, but never say you are leaving because of unfairness just because these 2 countries aren't included.
peace. |

Sorry Stardust
I do not agree with you. Vonage is unfair to me and some may be other customers.
Voipbuster and some others VOIPs all include all EU countries as free in their package.
If you work for Vonage, could you please explain as to why these two countries are not included the list?

I certainly don't work for them but have to also agree with Stardust. I can see that it must be frustrating from your point of view but I think it is more of a "shame" that they do not offer it but not "unfair".
How is it "unfair" for them not to include it, every company has differences, this is vonages business strategy. It is like saying "I think it is unfair that Burgerking don't offer Strawberry Milkshake but McDonalds do"?? If you want the Strawberry Milkshake then as a person you have the freedom to go grab one from McDonalds.
I think with so many things I have, if only they had 'this or that' it would be great. But I never think of it as unfair, I could say that when I first signed up to Vonage French calls were not free - was that unfair? No just that they couldn't offer it at that stage. |

I also think the above posters are correct about Vonage. They are not unfair in the slightest in this situation, they simply just do not meet the needs of that individual. There are many analogies we could draw up referring to the unfairness but most people will see that companies cannot keep everyone happy all of the time, they would not be in business if they did so. So to call them "unfair" is I think unfair on your part, they never claimed to do what you want, they never suggested they would do what you want and further to it, if you read the details of their service, you would know they didn't reach the countries in question. I hope you see that you are the one that is unfair. Hope you find a telecom thats fairer, i.e. free calls free line rental and they pay you to call your friends. Oh some people. |

Whilst I would agree that on the face of it Vonage are not being unfair, I do wonder whether people calling countries that aren't free are subsidizing the free ones. For example, it now costs 5p/minute to call Switzerland. When I signed up in Nov 2005 it was 3p/minute, and even that is more than the 2p/minute it costs on, e.g., TalkTalk (and has done for years). |

It is more likely that Vonage just does not have good terminating rates in some countries. I expect that they get better rates based on how much traffic they send and for places that have lower traffic, the rates are higher. For other VoIP providers, who have more business to those places, the rates are probably lower.
Also - these posts refer to "free" calls to certain countries. They are not "free". They are just "included" in the base price. If Vonage gets low enough rates, then it makes sense for their business to simplify things and include the cheap countries. If their rates are higher, they probably can't afford to do that.
So long as they tell you the cost before you call, it seems fair - even if not optimum for a particular caller. |

vonage is in the process of upgrading its system of offering lesser international rates to other EU countries.
how long have you been with vonage? have you considerd of the disconnection charges that you will have to shoulder if you cancel the service?
patience is still a virtue. don't you think you should wait a little bit more or give their 800 number a call for updates?

Contacted vonage and everything is sorted out. Initially signed 1 year contract in August 07 plan 2 for £75/Year, which did not include Switzerland & Holland at that time. Then I recently saw £7.99 V-Plan 2 on their website and contacted vonage again to change my plan to V-Plan 2 which includes Switzerland & Holland for free. The customer service person was very helpful and changed my plan without any extra charges. So I am only paying £6.25/month and I am happy again.
Thanks Vonage |
