What results do you get when you run the forum VoIP/speed test (look in the drop down "forum speed dial" menu)? Can you access the internet with a computer plugged into the VT2142? Can you access the VT2142 admin page? |

Let's start at the beginning. You were using USB, and now you're using ethernet. I assume that you're using an ethernet connection on your computer to plug into the LAN side of the VT2142. Is that correct? If you make the ethernet connection from the computer directly to the cable modem, do you then get internet connectivity? |

Yes I am using Yellow Ethernet port of vonage device to connect to ethernet port of computer.
When i type ipconfig\all, Ip address details are not shown. Does it mean I need to set TCP IP properties?
I never tried connecting cable modem to ethernet port. I'll test that as well.
Say it works then what shud I do? |

i take it that you have never used the ethernet port of your computer? if so, check if your network card's driver is installed...
control panel ->network connections -> system ->hardware -> device manager ->network adapters ->check your network card if there is a red X or yellow ? beside it..
if none, check if internet is working if computer is directly connected to the modem. if it does work, you might have to enable PPPoE on your vt2142 and enter the isp UN/PS...also tell us what the powerlight is doing on your vt2142..if its blinking twice or thrice or just once. the fact that you cant see any ip details when you do ipconfig says that there might be something wrong w/ your network card but thats another issue. |

There is no X on it.
Also I cant access internet connection using ethernet port connection.
Do I need to do IP settings for getting connection thru ethernet port??
Vonage device power light is blinking only once. |

Yes. You need to get the ethernet card on your computer set up. One source of information on how this should be done is the current setup for the USB port, which you know connects to the internet via the modem. An even better source of help is your ISP, who should be able to advise you on setting up an ethernet port to work with his system. Once you've got that working, you need to set up the VT2142 so that its WAN side works the same way. Then you need to change the computer setup to be compatible with the LAN side of the VT2142.
Note that you can go directly to setting up the VT2142, skipping the step of setting the computer up to work with the modem through its ethernet port. I don't recommend this approach (although it is shorter) because you don't know yet whether the computer ethenet port is functional. I prefer to work one issue at a time. |

I am facing a similar situation as the person in this thread. I am intersted to know how to set the DHCP to ON for the the Vonage box.
The Vonage VT2142 works as a router doesn't it?
I went to the command prompt in WinXP and typed ipconfig /all .
I looked at the Ethernet connection and got this ip address:
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : <ip-address>
SHould i connect to the Vonage box using the IP-address in the browser?
Actually I am remotely helping my family to set this box in India. If someone would be kind enough to provide detailed instructions , I would be able to forward them to my family.
All help appreciated.
