Please suggest what shud I do next? |
What are the ethernet settings in your computer that allow you to get to the ethernet when you plug your computer directly into the modem? Basically, the WAN side of your Vonage box needs to be set up that way, and the computer needs to be set up to be compatible with the LAN side of the Vonage box. |

The Vonage VT2142 works as a router doesn't it? |
Yes.

SHould i connect to the Vonage box using the IP-address in the browser? |
What you need to do is look at the the network setup for the ethernet card in the computer. If the computer is able to connect to the internet when it's plugged directly into the modem, then a similar setup on the WAN side of the Vonage box will be needed to allow it to connect.

All help appreciated. Pretender |
Keep in mind that the best resource for your family is their ISP. The ISP may not be interested in helping with Vonage, but they should be willing to help in setting up a router. Since the Vonage box is a router... |

Steve, When I set the TCP/IP properties for ethernet connection I was able to get internet using cable modem.
I called up ISP provider and then registered WAN MAC id of my Vonage router to their system. Still no success. I should at least get my phone working.
Do I still need to set LAN/WAN of Vonage router? For setting WAN side of Vonage router. i should be able to set it by accessing Vonage admin page which is 192.168.15.1. But when I do ipconfig/all I get following defualt gateway. "210.18.129.123" So how will I set LAN or WAN side of Vonage??? |

Steve,
When I set the TCP/IP properties for ethernet connection I was able to get internet using cable modem.
I called up ISP provider and then registered WAN MAC id of my Vonage router to their system. Still no success. ISP provider told me that download speed is 10-15 kbps. I know this is not sufficient but I should at least get dial tone. Am I correct?

Steve,
When I set the TCP/IP properties for ethernet connection I was able to get internet using cable modem. |
But what are the settings? Are you using DHCP or static addressing?

Yeesh. I don't know if you should get a dial tone or not. I suppose it depends on whether the adapter will even attempt to get provisioned with speeds that low.

Forget ipconfig. Plug your computer into the LAN side of the adapter, open your browser, and enter http://192.168.15.1 into the address block. Are you able to get to the admin page and log on? |

Finally I got Vonage working.
Thanks Steve for all your support.
Following steps got it working. 1) Disconnect Vonage from computer. Change computer TCP/IP setting to DHCP enabled. 2) Connect Vonage device to computer and first restart Vonage device and then restart PC. 3) Browse http://192.168.15.1. This will open Vonage settings page. 4) Enter all the TCP/IP details (Static IP address of your computer, Mac address (physical address of cmop)) in Vonage router settings WAN configuration in admin page. 5) Click Restart in Settings admin page. 6) You should be able to access internet and phone now. If it still doesn’t work then switch off everything. Start Cable modem wait for 2,3 minutes then start Vonage device wait for 2, 3 minutes. Then pick up the phone.
Hope this help to all who are searching the solution for using Vonage for Static IP enabled Cable modem. |
