So i get my D-link VWR Vonage capable wireless router today. I usually consider myself a fairly educated computer user, but not after this mess. Did a lot of searching on this forum for a setup like mine with no luck, although i did find a lot of useful information that helped me finally get it all lined out.
Im going to post how mine is setup just in case there is someone else thinking about a similar setup.
First I do have to mention that this is setup in 2 different homes.
First house has the cable connection, heres the setup there.
Webstar Cable Modem >>> Linksys BEFSR41 (192.168.1.1 Device IP, DHCP enabled @ .200)
From the BEFSR41 i have one computer hooked into a LAN port, and a NetGear ME102 Wireless AP#1
Across the road, I have another Netgear ME102 Wireless AP#2 connected to a Linksys WRT54G. 2 Computers, one wired one wireless and the Vonage need to be hooked up here. Here is where it went downhill, i tried several different configurations over several hours and never could get the internet and phone service. I was about to just scrap the whole thing for the eve and go get a switch, but right before that i decided to try one last setup and it worked.
From the NetGear AP#2 i ran the cable straight into the internet port of the Linksys WRT54G (Had been using the LAN side) I set the Local IP of the WRT54G to 192.168.15.2 with DHCP enabled @ .100. From the LAN ports on the Linksys i ran a cable to one pc, and one to the Vonage router (one pc is wireless). After i reset the D-link it all worked.
Dont have any way to post a pic but if someone is interested in a diagram or has any questions about something i may have forgotten, just ask ill do my best to help. |
