I've connected my Vonage box to a linksys wireless adapter... dial tone sounds perfect but when a call is actually connected the voice/fax data is extremely choppy and incoherent. I've used this line as a dedicated fax line but now by connecting it to my wireless adapter, the fax data connections either drop or print incomplete. I've connected my computer to this linksys wireless adapter and have NO problems connecting to the internet. The phone line on the Vonage box seems to be good and solid only when wired directly to the router. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

It would help if you would follow the sticky at the top of the forum. It says to include:
1. Your location
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)
3. Upload and download speeds
4. Modem make and model
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
8. Run this VoIP Test: After the test has fully completed, in the Advanced Tab, click on "View Text" in the lower right hand corner. Copy-N-Paste that data into your post.
This will help you get the answers/resolution faster if you can post that first.... |

Have you tried plugging the vonage into the linksys router? |

Yeah, it works fine when I plug it directly in the Linksys Router but I need this VOIP line to be in another room. The internet connection from the wireless adapter is strong and works fine on my computer but when I plug the Vonage terminal into the same adapter, the connection is terribly choppy and makes for incomplete faxes Any ideas? |

The problem is most likely the wireless adapter, if when plugged into the router it works fine.
Easiest solution, get multiple handset phones and put the base unit by the router (& vonage connection). I have the base unit by my computer, 1 handset in my bedroom, 1 in the living room. All work fine. |

What if I just need the line for a fax machine in the other room...? Anyway to use the connection from the handset to connect to the fax machine? Thanks! |

Are your test results for a computer plugged into the wireless adapter? |

I wouldn't bank on the WGA11B device. If you search the Linksys forums they are littered with people and problems with the WGA11B. Granted, most of the problems are for gaming systems but they are issues none the less. I used to use the wireless G Linksys adapter for my Xbox and then Xbox 360 - it was horrible. I eventually got the Xbox wireless adapter and moved the Xbox off the G wireless network (left that for the laptops in the house) to an A only wireless network for the Xbox and it's been nothing but smooth sailing since.
You're better bet might be to use a bridge like the WET11 (I think that is B capable) but Linksys doesn't make that anymore. You could Ebay it. That or upgrade to a B/G WAP54G access point and the WET54G bridge. This would probably work out better than using a gaming adapter to run the phone. |

Thanks Cid92! That's exactly the type of advice I was looking for. I appreciate your help!
Steve48 - yes, the test results were from the computer plugged into the wireless adapter. |
