ok so im playing my ps3 online and i get kicked of every 10 to 15 minuts. I have a netgear en 104 router ....with a comcast connection. Then my dad had the bright idea of getting this voip/vonage add on that would give us cheaper international calling. so i was thinking that me getting disconnected all the time is because of this thing. The same thing happenes with my pc and laptop the internet connection keeps on going out. iv already asked my dad about cancelling his subscription to it but hes really cheap and never lisans to me.. so does anybody know what i should do? |

Move out and buy your own internet connection. Just kidding!!
Since you had the problem before you dad added Vonage to the mix I would say your problem is probably your router.
Try taking the router out of the mix and plug directly into the cable modem. If you still get dropped every 15 minutes then you know the problem is Comcast or your cable modem so you should call for service. If you don't get dropped, plug the router back in with nothing but one device. Get dropped? Remove and add another device. Get dropped? If you get dropped with both, it's the router. Check your configs or replace it.
Comcast should give you enough bandwidth for a couple PCs, the brain numbing PS3 and Vonage. BUT, fair warning... Gaming takes more bandwidth than anything else, so YOU may be the reason the connection is not stable and you may not want to push the issue with Dad!! |

He can't be that cheap of a bastard if he shelled out that kind of money for a video game. Get off the couch and get outdoors! |

I don't think there's anything we can do here, unless the person who controls the network in your house is willing to ask for help. Sorry, there's no easy fix without attempting some troubleshooting. |

Sorry for the mis-understanding, but the issue is likely to still be the way the router is set up rather than the Vonage device. You still need to do some diagnostics to determine what is wrong. If you tell us the sequence of the device connection we may be able to help. It should be something like:
Cable Modem -> Router -> all other wired devices plugged into router including Vonage adapter. If he put the Vonage adapter between the modem and router that MAY be the issue.
One last piece of advice from someone who has likely to have spent a lot more time on this earth dealing with people than you have. Your problem with your parents is your approach. If you talk to them about things and ask for help with the issues rather than tell them they did something wrong, you'll get a better response and more respect. Something like "hey dad, can you help me figure out how to make our network work better with Vonage?" will get a better response than "hey dad, that Vonage crap you put in screwed up our internet connection. Cancel it."
You get back what you put out in the world. Give respect to receive it. Less PS3 and more interpersonal communication and you'll go far in life.

I run three computers, two laptops, Xbox 360, and Vonage all on a home network with an A wireless network (only for the Xbox) and a G wireless network for the laptops and I can play while on the phone and downloading.
I also have a network optimizer running on the line which helps out a ton when all the stuff is going on. Look here - might solve your issues:
Linksys Network Optimizer |
