Hi,
I have had Vonage for 2 years now and so far almost no issues. I have been using a Linksys RT31P2 so far. Setup is: Cable modem(Comcast provided) --> Wired router Linksys RT31P2 --> Laptop.
Last week, my phone connection dropped. I can see internet light but cannot connect to internet. If i connect via Modem then it works. I have a wireless router without phone port. If i use that with my cable modem, internet works ! So -Is the problem with Linksys RT31P2 that it is now old and needs to be replaced - ??? Phone port light 1 or 2 does not come on when i plug in phone cable to phone ports. Or can someone help resolve a technical issue that i am not aware of with the router. Comcast responsibility is till internet via modem so they wont help with router. I also called Linksys and they helped me once and it started working. however it has gone down again and i forgot the steps they had told. i called up again and they keep putting me on hold ...
Please suggest best solution. I would also like wireless option. so i had connected wireless router to wired router since i already had a free wireless router with me. Does it make sense to dump both routers and go for a new wireless one with phone ports. if so, please suggest a good one to use with Vonage as well. |

First based on what you have described it looks there is something wrong with the RT31P2. You could try to call Vonage and ask them to move your line from port 1 to port 2. There have been reports of a single port going back, but if you are saying the internet was also bad then this really won't help any.
If this doesn't work or you don't want to mess with it you will need to buy another Vonage device. I would not but an all in one router for both Vonage and wireless.
If you look around this forum you'll find that many people feel that the Vonage devices are good phone devices, but bad routers.
Just connect the Vonage Router (either old or new) to one of the ports on the wireless router for its connection.
You can look at Nate Hoy's website for more info on this setup.

Hope this helps. |

I am having the exact same issue!! Only I got Vonage to send me out a new router... this one isn't working either. I just posted pretty much the same post... my cable modem works, but not with router. Not even the new one. |
